Five-Minute Watercolour: Super-quick techniques for amazing paintings

I’ve been using this to introduce adult beginners to watercolour sketches and easy first painting exploration . Loved using it myself too

This book has lovely pictures which break up text nicely. This book is definitely more for the complete beginner as it starts with the very basic fundamentals. I didn't learn anything I didn't already know but there are some pictures / illustrations in the book that I'd like to copy for practice. I recommend this book for someone who knows nothing about watercolour.

I’m not really one to leave negative reviews, but I’m honestly quite shocked, disappointed and filled with regret that I bought this.I took up watercolour painting a couple of months ago, after a lifetime of never believing I had any artistic ability. I’m still not sure I do, but I’m learning and enjoying it.So I thought this would be a nice buy to learn some new techniques, get some ideas, and be inspired to keep going.Instead, it’s just... pages and pages of paintings by someone who doesn’t really seem to understand the basics of watercolour. Even the tiny example of painting a gradient isn’t a gradient at all, it’s just three distinct lines. The only good examples in the whole thing are the one on the cover and the ‘bloom’ example which fills two pages at the beginning of its chapter but gets a corner of actual space to inform.Fair play to the author for getting this published — flicking through it has given me more hope for getting a book out there than it has for teaching me anything. I also consider myself a Real Artist now.If you’re interested in learning watercolour painting, I’d recommend what I did over buying this book: watch some videos online and then experiment. I can almost guarantee that after a few tries you’ll have some pieces far better than anything presented here.

Excellent rapid entry point to watercolouring, or memory-jogger to someone like me who had lost their 'watercolour mojo' - I've got mine back, so thank you to the author!
