Outstanding
As someone interested in Russian history and the construction of the Trans-Siberian railway, I bought "Asia Overland," for the Russian segment of the book. I was astonished by what I read. Omrani and his team of researchers have brought together an extraordinary number of early traveler's accounts, and have succeeded in coherently weaving together the story of travel on the northern route through Asia. Numerous themes are successfully dealt with, and in spite of all the various travelers that are referred to, the Russian segment maintains its intensity and literary coherence from start to finish. If the other two segments of the book are as good, and I am confident that they are as Omrani is an Iranian expert, than this is a must read for anyone interested in Central Asia. Just the superb illustrations alone are worth the reasonable price of this text. Enjoy!!!

Such an intersting book
This book provides an interesting perspective on travel across Russia and into Asia. It combines first person sources, the history of travel and regional history to provide a much broader context and understanding of the area as well as any modern travelers' experiences.

Unique Meld of History and Travelogue
I really enjoyed this book. The author mixes in a series of historic travelogues with the history of the Trans-Siberian Railroad and the Silk Road in a way that made me feel like I was traveling along these routes in the 1600-1800s. Photos are amazing, too. Now, I have several new future travel destinations!

See before buying
This should be a wonderful book to own. It is full of information and wonderful photographs. Unfortunately the type is very small and in some places so light that it is hard to read. Maybe a later printing or edition will take care of these problems and I could recommend it without hesitation. Now I suggest that you see it before you buy it.
