Dream Lover [DVD]

I first saw this movie in early 2021 streaming on Amazon. I watched it because I saw that Madchen Amick was in it mostly because Twin Peaks is my favorite show. I also thought the lead actor was Hugh Grant originally based on the cover because I wasn't familiar with James Spader. This movie made James Spader one of my favorite actors. I ended up scouring through his filmography after this. But let me talk more about this movie.This movie is something I can watch over and over again even knowing the twists. The acting is great and the soundtrack is dramatic in an early 90s soap opera way similar to Twin Peaks. I mean that as a huge compliment. This is also a surprisingly surreal movie during dream sequences. The story is simple but still mysterious and engaging. The movie moves quickly. There is never a boring moment. I can't count how many times I watched this movie in 2021. Then suddenly the movie was taken off of streaming on Amazon. I would search to see if the movie was available again so many times. I ended up contemplating ordering a copy of the DVD on here multiple times. The price at that time was very high. I wished they would release it on Blu Ray and low and behold in November of 2022 they finally did. I was quick to order it. I am so happy to finally have it in my grasp physically. This movie is a guilty pleasure for me.If you like 90s drama thriller movies and are a Twin Peaks fan then this one is a must see. Madchen Amick plays the complete opposite of Shelly Johnson from Twin Peaks and its really hot and nerve racking in this. How this isn't more popular is a shame.Another movie that came out around the same time worth checking out that also has James Spader is 'Storyville'. Fun fact, it is the only movie directed by Mark Frost. He co-created Twin Peaks.

Little-seen thriller/drama about a lover/spouse who isn’t as appears. Recommended.

One reviewer said they left out a number of “dream” scenes, and thus the title and the plot made less sense. Another said they cut out most of the sex scenes. As handsome as they were as a couple, as lovely as Madachen Amick was, that is too bad. Not looking for soft porn in movies, but sexual passion, especially when used by an alluring and incredibly beautiful female, can set up men, and also women if the man is irresistibly sexy, to do things very harmful to themselves, and thus get ensnared. This just wasn’t done that well – I did not feel they developed her hold on him well enough. More sex scenes would have helped that, and made his naivete about her more believable. Another part of it that was quite poorly done was the actual entrapment hearing. She had so many skeletons in her closet, and her explanations were so flimsy, the hearing didn’t seem real at all. The Excelsior Hotel explanation was nothing less than ridiculous, and his lawyer could easily have shot that one down. Her friend Debbie could have been easily exposed as a fraud. Although she had bruises, there was not a single witness that he actually struck her. Because this pivotal scene was done so poorly, I can't give more than 3 stars, and that may be generous. And, we all knew how it would end – that was signaled almost as soon as he was held in the institution. And, it's not that easy to avoid sedation in such institutions – they do urine tests, blood tests, and have trained staff to look for physical signs. I liked the attempt, I liked the acting by the lead couple, and the plot was ok; they just didn’t make it believable enough for me.

I am a huge .. James Spader fan... the first time I saw him on the screen was in a little movie called "Endless Love" with Brooke Shields ... Of course I have seen him in many teen flicks that were made in the 1980's ... Today he's a much respected actor appearing on network television..in the "Blacklist".. Can you believe this hunk who had 3 children...just turned 60 years of age. ?? Yes but he's a much respected professional in his field...and that's why his career continues .. This movie I had never even heard of and in the beginning it ebbed and flowed.. The adult scenes were really.... spicy . The scenes with the "Carnival" sequences ..weren't really needed ... That's what kills the film .. then after he discovers that she is fooling around. I was ...shocked .. You could see the love,betrayal and passion in his eyes.. He really thought he found the ... GIRL ..of his dreams ?? Yeah right ...I would have Dumped,Divorced and moved on quick ..from her scandalous ..ways !! When he's committed to the institution ...is when the movie ..goes south .. Its worth sitting through ..until the end..

James Spader plays a wealthy architect named Ray who divorces from his first wife then fears he may never find love again until one day he bumps into a woman who he thinks is perfect for him. They meet again a couple weeks down the road and end up hitting it off. Not long after that they end up getting married, wife, kids, the usual deal.. then Ray becomes suspicious..he starts to investigate and what he finds you wont believe.Picture this: Your own wife is a psychopath and you dont find out until 2-3 years into the marriage and start piecing together clues as the years go by and then all of a sudden you find out this woman isnt who she says she is, everything shes said has been a lie and worse..When he finds out and confronts her... well i'll let you find out for yourself, all i can tell you is its insane what she does to him, she fools and manipulates everyone into believing hes the 'crazy' one, then the twist of an ending.. This is the worst case scenario that could happen to someone. This woman is your worst nightmare. This combined with weird dreamlike carnival sequences make this a very good thriller. It also has a dark humor to it. Excellent performance by Spader. Highly Recommended.

Delivered on time, well packaged, and as expected

I have given this film 3 stars because the story line is just o.k. James Spader is good at his part, however the ending was predictable.

Love James Spader, but it's a weak story.

Difficult not to enjoy it and it is a mystery that it didn't become a classic. Is is intriguing in the way it permeates the human soul.
