I've read much of the Cooper/Chalfant oeuvre, but this is my favorite--a series of first-hand accounts by NYC graffiti artists that were active in the late 1970s/early 1980s, accompanied by examples of their works from Henry Chalfant's archives. Added bonus: a quality hardcover edition at a low price.

Another great book by Henry Chalfant
Another great book by Henry Chalfant, and Sacha Jenkins. There are some superbly told, and never before stories in here by some great writers. This book is 101% RTW approved!!

I expected more photography and better updates on the writers from the past
Because of the subject matter, I expected more photography and better updates on the writers from the past. This is not a very detailed "where are they now" book. It is more based on old stories of crews and individuals. Not a greatly entertaining read for being so copy heavy.

Great book! Know
Great book, and the perfect accompaniment to style wars and subway art, I like to I know my graff history being around since the 80βs even so there were a few eye openers in this book.A great read if you are into graff weather you know your history or need to learn it.*important note the pics in this book are small, it is a small book not like subway art. It is all about the stories and memories the writers are sharing.

Quite underwhelmed
I was quite disappointed by this book. Yes, it looks at artists from then and now as well as including numerous photos. However, it is only quite small, which made the photos less interesting (due to their size) than in other books on the subject, such as Subway Art for example. The pages also felt a little grainy. There aren't any high gloss foldouts of whole cars. Whilst I'm glad I've added it to my collection, it's fair to say I was quite underwhelmed when it arrived after my intial joy of finding it!!

Really good book, and worth every penny
Really good book, and worth every penny. It's full of really good stories, interviews and history from the NYC graff scene of the Subway Art era. The only drawback is it's size - it's only a small book, so the flix are pretty tiny in there, which is a pity as there's a lot of wicked trains shot in the iconic Henry Chalfont connector style. Don't let that put you off though - it's still immense, just peer at it nice and close.
