The New Creation: John Wesley's Theology Today

An excellent study of Wesleyan thought
If you are interested in a serious look at Methodism, theology, and/or the intersection of religion and Enlightenment thought, I recommend this book. It is a well researched study of John Wesley’s beliefs and early Methodism and the impact of Enlightenment philosophy and different historical Christian thought traditions on his theology. This is a relatively difficult, scholarly quality book so that is a good thing if you are really interested in the topic or familiar with scholarly writing, but for some casual readers it may be a bit complex. Despite the fact that it was written in the late 90s, the author’s relation of Wesley’s beliefs to current issues and religion holds up fairly well.

An excellent book on John Wesley
This book by Theodore Runyon about the theology of John Wesley is an excellent book with some information and ideas that I have not run into before. He handles the theology of Wesley is an excellent manner, even providing the philosophical and theological background that Wesley used to help formulate his own theology. Rather than following the order of salvation, which is the method most use to present Wesley's theology, he starts from the image of God and the recreation of that image in man. I enjoyed it!J. Robert Ewbank author "John Wesley, Natural Man, and the 'Isms'"this is also an ecumenical book

An indept exploration of Wesley's theology
This is not an easy read. This is a scholarly work on Wesley's doctrine that is the foundation of the Methodist churches. I suggest beginning with a less complex volume before diving into this work.

This is my favorite
As a United Methodist pastor and committed student of Wesley, I have read many books of this type. This is my favorite! Professor Runyon is not only a scholar but also, clearly, a practitioner, a transformed believer. He fills the tests with quotes from Wesley which both illustrate the points made while also drawing the reader in. He shows how Wesley's theology reflects both a knowledge and appreciation of Anglican, Lutheran, Catholic, Orthodox, Pietist, Arminian and Primitive Christianity -drawing critically from all. I believe this book should be required reading for those who want to guide others to walk in the Wesleyan way of knowing, personally, the grace of God revealed in Christ and living a life of Christian faith in today's world. .
