This book promoting self esteem has been a favorite of our family for 3 generations
This book promoting self esteem has been a favorite of our family for 3 generations. I have personally been reading it to the children in my family for almost 50 years. Starting with my brother when I was 13 and he was 1. Then to my own children, then his, now I have a copy for each of my grandchildren. When they are very small it is fun to make all the animal sounds. Not until they are about 5 do they begin to get the point of the story. We also change the names to people in our family. This is a family tradition for us.

Love this sweet story!
I have read and loved the Petunia books. When I was searching for other Petunia stories I found this by the same author. The story is sweet and the illustrations are wonderful and remind me of my own story books from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Highly recommend this book!

Wear your ears as it pleases YOU
A replacement copy, this time to read for grandchildren. Donkeys somehow seem wise :-) This book is about not attempting to please EVERYBODY. Listen to your own inner "voice". Perhaps it was based on Aesop's fable about a man, a son and a donkey going to market, and everyone's ideas of how to get the donkey there. The book's materials seem lighter, it is hardcover at least. My original copy had "read the cover off" anyway.

One of my childhood favorites!
I used to love when my mother would read this to me as a child! The basic lesson this book is meant to reinforce is that you should just be yourself and be happy with it. Even though the book is older, the lesson is still valuable today. I bought it for my niece and nephew in hopes they will also enjoy it, too.

Important lesson taught
My kids had this book when little and Joe my grandkids like it. Teaches a lesson about why you don't tease others who are different.

A book that is timeless.
This is an excellent book. The message is "that it is best to be oneself". It won a Caldecott Medal (illustrations). Donkey-Donkey was first copyrighted in 1940. Do NOT assume it is outdated. As I said it is timeless. Every child should have a copy of this book.

Loved it!
I had this book when I was about 7 years old. I would read it over and over. I love the message to just be yourself. As a child I bad a hand deformity and I tried to hide it and always be like everyone else. When I felt bad I would hi of read Donkey Donkey. It Always made me feel better.Thank you for the ride back about 50 years!

awesome book
They just don't make children's books like they used to. Donkey cuts his ear on a scythe, and there is blood. There Will be Blood, but kid's style. It's just a little bit of blood, but it horrified and fascinated me as a child. It's a great story about accepting yourself as you are and not conforming to peer pressure, but it's just the littlest bit dark.

Looks good
But old fashioned in its writing and pictures but I'm sure my 5 yr old niece will love it.
