EU-only two CD set. A simple bearded troubadour performing unsophisticated songs without tricks or embellishments, Burl Ives single-handedly filled concert halls on both sides of the Atlantic. Features the two Top Ten hits, 'A Little Bitty Tear', 'Funny Way of Laughing' and the Top Twenty 'Call Me Mr. In-Between'. Burl Ives was a true institution in America and this collection is a fitting tribute to the genius of the man.

The non folk side of Burl Ives
This set is all stereo recordings. Only a small number of tracks are the traditional folk music for which Burl Ives is best known. The second CD is primarily country music, including several songs that were great hits for him. The first CD is mostly highly produced easy listening tracks, only a half dozen or so lean towards the folk music for which Burl Ives is best known. Others are Burl Ives interpretations of various easy listening standards which are not quite what I'd expect from Burl Ives.CD1:Tracks 1 through 12 are much more "Easy Listening" music rather than folk music. They are highly produced tracks with accompaniment by The Ray Charles Singers. Of these tracks, five songs lean heavily towards folk music and should be known to those who enjoy that music.track 13 through 20 are highly produced easy listening standards with Burl Ives accompanied by a full orchestra.Tracks 20 through 25 are traditional folk music in the traditional mode; that is, just Burl Ives and his guitar.CD2:These 24 tracks have a country music feel with some western tunes, country blues, calypso and downright country songs. All are done by Burl Ives accompanied by The Anita Kerr Singers. Among these tracks are his best known country work, A Little Bitty Tear , Funny Way Of Laughin' and Call Me Mr. In-Between. It also includes his covers of such songs as The Long Black Veil and Mocking Bird Hill. While this is a very enjoyable collection, it may not be what you're looking for if your tastes run to traditional folk music. I'd rather had a bit less production and a bit more tradition. However, if you already have a good collection of his folk music, this set does contain his more recent work and quite a few tracks younger people are more likely to identify with Burl Ives. Of special note in that regard is the second CD of this set that highlight his career in country music.Overall, a great collection of the more recent work of Burl Ives and a great addition to a collection of his work as a folk musician.BTW: I feel that the statement "AURA LEE (aka LOVE ME TENDER when recorded by Presley)" is incorrect. Clearly, they are sung to the same tune, but "also known as" is misleading, at best since the lyrics are quite different.

Sentimental and fun!
I gave this CD as a gift to a contractor who loved listening to my own Burl Ives music while he worked at my house. He loved playing it in his truck and reminisced about how much his dad had loved this music!
