because its a high grade glow stick ,the glass tube inside the tube is realy thick..a little hard to bend..the light is very good .these light sticks are for saving your life in a darken area where a flash light might get you shot..throw one in a realy dark room and you realy can see around the room ..bright for about 5 min..than it start to get weaker..paul

Excellent chem-light, perfectly as advertised.
I got the white variety. I've heard the yellow is even brighter. This is absolutely the brightest glowstick on the market.Advantages:-Incredibly bright; can illuminate a small space easily for the stated period of use-Rugged design; I get the impression that it's impossible to accidentally break under normal use conditions-Easy to remove from packaging-Hooks & holes; the hook design is well-thought-out; even includes a slight incision at the top for which the light will balance perpendicularly on a taught line-Can stand on bottom-edge easilyDisadvantages:-none; except unless you plan to use it past its 30' period of advertised usabilityUse-cases:-For pre-planned applications of emergency use lighting. Ensure your task does not take more than 30', but the light will last at least that long and be serviceable. If you want emergency general/local lighting, go for one of the less-bright but longer-lasting options. In short, it's an excellent product. Make sure you're getting the variety that fits your use-case. I'd keep a few of these stashed in various places should alternative light sources fail me.

Brightness
I could be wrong, but they are not as bright as the chem-lights we used in the military.

Seemingly bright, but not a very useful light
The white light is helpful to be seen, but classic yellow/green or orange/red are better. Not very useful to see with or use for doing any work or tasks in the dark. Better than nothing, though. Again, the yellow/green is more useful

A little bit expensive, very bright but not shockingly so
These are plenty bright enough to spot at a distance or find something in your trunk but I wouldn't say they are comparable to a burning flare at all. packaging is sturdy, I've never had one arrive already cracked and the little loop at the top is handy for attaching to your clothing. They fade out slowly over about 10-15 minutes but do give off some light for a few more hours, although nothing like the longer lasting glowsticks from the same company. I bought a set last year to help my group meet up at music festivals at night and had some leftover for this year. They worked fine and didn't appear to suffer from sitting in my car for several weeks out of their box but in the foil wrapping. If every lumen counts (glow stickers I'm looking at you) these are the brightest I've found but for most purposes I would probably recommend the longer lasting ones by the same company.

Good stuff
I use these to glow string with. First off these are very bright and they last a while. They are ultra bright for about 5 mins but for the next 45min to an hour they fade but are brighter than the average glow sticks. I stopped buying these for now because they are a bit pricey for me. They have dropped the prices on them so I am considering buying them again. Anyways as I said these are very bright and last a while. The only other brand of glow sticks I have seen brighter are the Revolutions. However Revolutions burn out faster and are less durable. Revolutions always break on me when i wrap or do orbitals. The Cyalume are very very durable. It is not often that they break on me when i spin. Before you spin make sure to cut off the hooks at the end so you dont get your laces tangled. :DPROSVery brightLast a whileDurableCONSPriceNot SUPER DUPER brightHas a hook on the end (not a big deal, just annoying because you have to cut/bite them off...they tend to tangle on the laces)

HIgh quality and long lasting
Bought a supply of these after living through hurricane Irene this summer, and they're everything they claim to be.The packaging is sturdy and made for long-term storage, yet it just takes a second to rip one open and light it up. I've tried both the "commercial grade" and the "military grade" (these are the milspec), and the military grade seems to burn somewhat brighter and longer, although to a degree, intensity and duration seem to depend on ambient temperature. These are the "high intensity" ones that are quite bright, but only last 30-60 minutes. I found that you get a solid 30 minutes at the high brightness, and then they quickly diminish in output, giving you dimmer and dimmer (and more and more yellow) light for the next hour or so.Requiring no batteries or electricity, these are safe in hostile environments, such as when investigating a gas leak. They're also bright and strong enough to make a good replacement for road flares. They're also handy on the boat for emergency lighting.Everyone should have a supply on hand for emergencies - definitely recommended.

Bright for 30 glows all night.
Great actual 30 minute glow sticks. They last all night but for a good 30 minute you have a light source you can read by.

Not bright. Not 30 minutes. Regular bright. 12 hours. Big price. Big ripoff.
The only reason I gave a 2 instead of a 1 is they weren't WORSE than a regular glowstick. These are an utter lie. The only thing military about them is their shape. I just bougt 150 of the same size glowsticks (only 65 cents each , BULK!!) and they give off the EXACT SAME brightness as any of those regular glowstick AND, strangely enough, these "30 minute" sticks burned for 12 hours, just like my other ones?!?! What an anticlimactic disappointment they were. So I put one of each in my hands and cracked them simultaneously, and put them in a dark closet. Sure enough, hour to hour, each time we checked, NO DIFFERENCE. EVER. And I can tell you right now these "bright" glowsticks didn't cost no 65 cents each . Grrrrr.I want my money back, and an explanation. To whoever would give these mediocre sticks a dissimilar assessment, I would have to either question their judgment or their motivation.

Lasted forever
I tried them first in carved pumpkins on halloween night, they lit the pumpkin up! The next day they were still glowing on my doorstep even with colder temps. I will get more of these. Used them in a power outage as well, placed some in each room! Lit the rooms good

Dimmer than the long-lasting green.
I bought these after purchasing the 12-hour green ones. These are supposed to be shorter-lasting but brighter. They were quite disappointing in that regard becasue they are only about 50-70% as bright as the green ones. Not sure how this can be called high-intensity when the other one is so much brighter. I even tried heating the white one up but that still only got it to maybe 80% the brightness of the green one.Nevertheless, it works, and it is bright enough for emergency lighting needs. Either will light a room well enough to get around safely and either puts out enough light to read by if you're close. But if you want brighter and don't mind the green color, go with the green.

According to the cyalume website these have a 4 year shelf life. They come in a box with an amazon label covering the lot number and expiry date. The individual units inside have an expiry of 10/18 and I ordered them 09/17. Which means they must have been sitting for sometime. Remember these are for use in emergency situations, so make sure to open the box right away to determine when they should be replaced. Depending on how important and what the intended use is, you may not want to purchase these.
