After years of searching, finally found this product
I have a hardwood front door and it was getting weathered with age. For years, I could not find a product that would preserve the look of the wood grain and also create a protective coat on an exterior wooden surface. All the other products that I found required sanding of the wood prior to application, which did not make sense for a door in fairly good condition.Anyway, this exterior oil is awesome, and I've just re-ordered it again! It's almost clear and creates a beautiful shiny coat on the wood. A single coat lasted well over one year, and I've just applied two coats this year to see if I can do it every other year. Great product - highly recommend! One thing to keep in mind - must use a non-foam brush. Foam brush quickly falls apart from this oil (maybe the glue that holds the foam melts from this - not sure). So, get a regular brush, a cheap one worked for me just fine -- the oil spreads itself evenly even if it looks like there will be streaks from the bristles. Be prepared to throw the brush out after use - I tried mineral spirits clean-up of the brush and it's just not worth it....

Durable exterior wood protector
Delivery took 3.5 weeks for this product to arrive so as long as you don't need it immediately, it's worth the wait. I used this oil finish for some large wooden dice used for outside dice games (Yahtzee, Farkel, Rollzee) that my wife purchased for camping. I initially planned on using teak oil but I think that this is a much better product for my application. This was very easy to apply to the hardwood used on the dice but as most of us know, the secret to a great finish is the sanding and surface prep. I gave them 2 coats and I was pleased to see that there was no sign of overlapping on the brush strokes and it left a great finish that was slightly darker than the raw wood. We've used them twice (on grass surfaces) and they still look great. I will do a follow-up review after more uses but so far, I have to say that I highly recommend this product.

Good Product
I was traveling thru Oakhurst, CA, just outside the Yosemite National Park, and I purchased a chain-saw sculptured bear, carved from a small log. Its shaped from an approximately 16-inch diameter log. The bear is sitting down holding a plaque saying welcome. I really like it and wanted to protect it from UV rays and moisture.I needed to seal the wood and there was enough outdoor oil in this can to coat the wood sculpture two separate times. I used a spray bottle from Home Depot found in the cleaning department, to dispense/mist the oil. The bear sculpture soaked up the entire quart in two separate applications. It slightly darkened the piece to a nice light golden color. There was already some drying and splitting of the log, so I shot a tight stream into the cracks to try to stop the fast-drying process and stop the splitting.I am happy with the results. I purchased another can because it’s an annual process to keep away UV rot and weather damage. You can mist it on with a spray bottle and use a foam brush if necessary.

Beautiful Finishes with Outdoor Oil
Love this finish and sealer. Previously use Marine spar varnish for my outdoor furniture which is highly protective, but difficult to get that final finish coat clear. This Outdoor oil is way easier to apply. it goes on thin and levels quickly on it's own. If your wood is sanded properly, this soaks in evenly. 3 coats min depending on the wood. I use a forth coat applied with 1200 grit sandpaper and a soft sanding block to apply and it comes out soooo smooth, you can's stop touching it. The next day you can poor water directly on it and see it bead up immediately. If you have wood you want to feel, use this finish. If you want a rubbery plastic feel, use spar varnish. Keep in mind, none of the true outdoor products will protect the wood from dings and scratches. That being the case, the Outdoor Oil is much better to fix dings and scratches down the road as well. Don't forget to read the instructions, and throw away your rags and towels.

Looks like a brand new bench!
It has been in the garage for 6-7 years. I tried General Finishes Outdoor oil whether it can improve its looks. Well, as you can see, it does real “Make over” and looks as a brand new bench. I just love this bench and it also looks good in my backyard. As soon as I tried, it changed its look; I tried twice to see whether it has a better look. You can try once because it shows right away its improved look. I am glad that I tried. Thanks

Love it!
Made two Adirondack chairs and matching footstools, applied four coats of General Finishes Outdoor Oil. First coat applied with foam brush to get good coverage, other coats applied with clean cotton cloth soaked in the finish. Very easy to apply and finish came out beautiful. Coverage is very good used about ½ gallon on both chairs and footstools. Will most likely have to reapply a coat or two in a few years but chairs are not exposed to harsh weather and sit on patio out back so I am expecting finish to last at least a few years.

Weatherproofing Par Excelence!!!
This Outdoor Oil seems to be the only product that weatherproofs without staining. That said, I must confess that it changed the color of the wood I was using -- much as though it had gotten and stayed wet. I was using very old reclaimed wood, so the oil soaked in like crazy, which may have contributed to the color change. It also meant that I had to use 2 quarts on the outside side of my front door. I feel as though that door is ready for anything now, partly because of the reviews I read about it before I went searching for it. It was definitely worth the search.

Good choice for exterior wood pieces
Relatively durable finish with the best UV resistance of any oil finish I know. Oil finishes rarely protect wood from solar damage all that well, but so far so good with this product.
