Big n easy
The large version will hold 5 days of food. Straps are strong and easy to attach to a line or bear cable. Pulls closed and will keep contents reasonably dry in an overnight rain, but is not completely watertight. Side pocket holds a line and rock pouch. I like it because it's lightweight and keeps my pack organized.

So much better than a bear vault for backpacking!
So glad we got this instead of a big bulky heavy bear canister! The bag itself is super light and folds down very small. The included rope and rock bag probably takes up more space than the bag. But all the pieces do fold down pretty small and light and fit into a little mesh bag. The bag held up well. The first trip, we had to pull it up a tree with lots of broken branches sticking out of the trunk on the way up. I was worried that one of them would puncture the bag, since it seems thin, so we used a pointed trekking pole to kind of push it away from the tree while we were pulling it up, but I still lost hold of it and the bag smacked against the tree a few times. Made me cringe, but found no damage later. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 (I only give a 5 star rating if the item is basically perfect) is because when I was pulling open the outside velcroed pocket, rather than the velcro strip separating, it held so hard that it pulled it away from the bag on one end of the strip and made a small hole in the bag. I was careful with it the rest of the time, then sewed it up better when we got home, and then it was fine for the next trip. The pocket is great to put the mesh storage bag in, or, since we used the bear bag to put the food in before putting it in our packs, we also put the rock bag and rope in the pocket. The other slight imperfection is that the system itself isn't perfect. If you're not careful, when you throw the rock bag up and over a high branch, if the throw is a little hard, the rock bag can wrap around the branch a few times and that sucks trying to pull it back down if the tree is rough. Or, again is the tree is not a smooth tree, which many aren't, the rock bag may not slide down well and you're stuck trying to get it to come down or pull it back and start over. We had to do that one time and then the rock bag got stuck between another branch. We ended up having to climb up the tree at least far enough to reach it with a trekking pole. Kind of a pain in the butt, but I still say the benefits outweigh the cons of this vs. a bear vault. So, just practice your throwing skills and it's a great solution for keeping bears far from your food. Btw, we put the food into OPSAK BARRIER BAGS to keep the scent from attracting bears in the first place. The rope is really long, too long for what we needed, and we ended up with lots of leftover to try not to tangle. I'm thinking about cutting it for ease of use, and still taking the extra just in case we do need it and could tie it back on. We also ended up using this rope for our outdoor shower. The rope was not thick, but still nice and strong nylon that held up 4 gallons of water. While it's a pain at some times that the rope catches on rough trees, at other times, it's helpful. Even with that heavy bag of water, after we hefted it up high, all we had to do was go around the neighboring tree trunk 4-5 times and it held the bag without even needing to tie it (though we did just to be sure).Overall, though there are some quirks, I'd fully recommend this for backpackers that want to stay light but protect their food too. I'm completely happy with my purchase.

Not bad for the cost
The pocket on the side of the bag wasnt sewn well and began to come off in just a weeks time, the bag is however made of lightweight material but dont expect it to be waterproof.

Well, it did its job.
This was a handy pack. Much easier to hang than when I use a plastic bag. The only fault I found is that the rock bag isn't big enough to hold a rock heavy enough to toss over a tree for counter-weighting. My husband and I ended up tying a piece of wood to the end to toss over the trees. As some other reviewers state, it isn't waterproof. But who cares? When you're backpacking, your food and fire kit are generally in plastic bags of their own. This sack is just to keep everything up in the trees, away from any potential bears. I found it did that job quite well. The ripstop fabric held up to granite cliffs (we hung it over a cliff face one night), dogs, dropping, scraping against trees, shrubs, and assorted other carelessness (my husband is rough on our gear) and came out without a scratch. It is also machine washable, just wouldn't put it in the dryer for fear of melting even at low temps.Overall I'm very happy with the bag and it did its job perfectly.

NOT water proof
This bear bag is a good size, but this is not waterproof and all food was soaked after a light rain. Very upset with soggy food for our trip. I can no longer return this item which is also a disappointment.

Great, just not water proof
I liked the bag. I would have gave it 5 stars but it is not waterproof. You want to plan on getting a cover for this if it is going to rain. However the weight is ideal for ultralight back country. Tip: In Glacier it rained almost constantly. I usually kept my backpack in my tent vestibule so I was able to use my pack rain cover to put around this bag when i hoisted it. Worked perfectly.

didn't make the week
Received the bag and mini rock bag/rope with no problems. Unfortunately the bag ripped on the first week out. It was not over stuffed, plenty of room at the top of the bag and it wasn't overly heavy. It held 5 days of dehydrated meals with no problems. Noted on the 5th day that there is a one inch rip at the bottom of the bag. Will try to sew it, but not happy about it

Works as advertised for me
I have used this on 3 different hiking trips now, and it has been an invaluable asset each time. The bag can be quite spacious if you need it to be, it is very light, and it comes with a rope so you can hang it fairly easily. Opening and closing the bag is very easy, so getting into it during bad weather or in the dark is not hard at all.Overall, this is quite useful. However, it is very light so I wouldn't expect it to survive a bear (or rodent) for that matter.
