Good for small group Bible study
This is the second time that I have used Max Lucado's "Fearless" for a small group Bible study at my home. Almost everyone has fears and worries, which means that almost everyone can relate to the topic of this book. Max Lucado, in his conversational style with plenty of real life examples, points the readers to Bible themes and verses, indicating that God is with His people and gives us frequent commands and reasons to "fear not." There are discussion questions. for each chapter, at the back of the book. These are optional, and the group or the facilitator may want to pick and choose which ones will be discussed during the session. We used the book with no video and no workbook, and it was quite sufficient. A lot of participants want to keep their books to refer to after the study is over, and they tell their friends, both Christian and non-Christian about the book--sometimes leading to further purchases. One of the participants conversed about it, while waiting in the airport, and because the person to whom she was talking was very interested, gave it to him. (She had finished reading it). I usually have between 6 and 12 people in a home Bible study group. We start or finish with homemade refreshments--something baked, fresh fruit and cheese or veggies and dip and coffee, tea or water. Then we have our study. Then prayer and prayer requests. The whole thing takes about 2 hours. There is no written "homework." This is not as intense as a Beth Moore or Henry Blackaby study and is not a substitute for these, but allows more flexible time for fellowship and prayer. "Fearless" is a very encouraging book and of course, points the reader to God and the Bible as the source of encouragement. The book may be used for self-study, too, but the small group format also helps the participants to encourage and support each other.

His Most amazing Book yet
Are you paralyzed by a spirit of fear? How many fears do you carry around with you every day -- for your children? yourself? your career? your future? your marriage? Your community? your nation? Your aging parents?Max Lucado brilliantly lays out the Bible's promises -- "I will be with you always" being the strongest of those, and tells us WHY Jesus spent so much time telling the disciples not to be afraid and to be strong and courageous. And then he explains WHY God wants us to overcome our fears and give them to him instead. He specifically suggests writing down all your fears in every category and then sitting down and giving each one specifically to the Lord. This has done more for my prayer life than anything else I had ever tried! For the record, the first time I sat down and told Jesus about my fears, it took 45 minutes and I felt like I was just starting to scratch the surface. And then Lucado tells us to go back and do it again every time we feel scared. And the effects in my life have been miraculous -- you really do feel light and free and filled with faith when you realize you don't have to carry all your fears around but can give them to God and place them in His hands instead. Right now, I am feeling so close to God, and more peaceful than I have ever felt. I am so excited to continue growing in my walk with Christ through this miraculous book. You might think you don't need this book, but trust me, you do.BTW, there's also a workbook and this might make a great Bible study for your church group -- or it might be too personal to want to share with a group. You probably want to read the book first before you decide. Blessings --

FEARLESS: IMAGINE YOUR LIFE WITHOUT FEAR By Max Lucado
Fearless is an intriguing book that deals with one of our basic survival emotions. First, I read thru the entire book rather quickly and found it rather mundane in its overall content. Many of the examples cited therein were familiar to me, along with most of the Scriptural selections - since I have been a student of the Bible for decades. However, during my second reading of the book I decided to glean out some of the key statements and insights that Max Lucado had included in each chapter of the document. To my credit, I discovered a wealth of new perspectives concerning how we should view the elements of fear that we must deal with daily. Since none of us are immune to fear, we need to develop ways of coping with this monster, which can be manifested in many ways. Max Lucado successfully advocates the methods that Christians can adopt to deal with the doubts and uncertainties that we constantly face.Although the book promotes and encourages us to face our individual `bogey man,' it does not offer a panacea to our frustrations, doubts, and intimidations. Neither saints nor sinners are guaranteed safety in this toxic world. However, for the believer, Max Lucado voices these words of hope: "God meets daily needs daily. Not weekly or annually. He will give you what you need when it is needed." (p. 50) This comment, and many others, should underline the fallacy of those who place their faith in accumulated wealth, power, and pleasure as a hedge to counterbalance insecurity in the secular world.Personally, I believe that the book adequately covers most of the sources of fear facing us today. It is a resource of hope for the believer that is struggling with the stresses of daily living amid a topsy-turvy world. I would also recommend this book to anyone needing words of encouragement and enlightened guidance to their questions on handling fear.

Love this book! Always find just the right thing when I need it most.
This is a great book! I've gifted several of them to others who I thought would benefit from the uplifting words within. I can open this book and always find just the right bit of inspiration for whatever I'm going through at the time. I turn to it often.

Very helpful book, well written and truly a help in issues with fear
Absolutely love this book and how it is written. Max has a great way with words and describes the feelings of fear so well. Not only does he do this, but he also gives the underlying issues of what fear does with our relationships, whether with God or with others. Consequences one doesn't consider so much while experiencing fear, but one does face these consequences.Lastly he gives the reader handles how to deal with this issue.Only while Reading the book, you start to realise how fear creeps into every available area of your life. Not simply to realise and then suffer for it, but the book well describes how to deal with it, in the small insecurities of life as well as the large fear issues of fear of for instance loosing a loved one. Learning to deal with the former helps in the process of dealing with the latter. Thank you Max Lucado!

„God“ is the only answer you‘ll get here...
Tempted by a potential scientific insight into the mechanics of fear, all I got was 13 chapters ending with „God will take care of it“. Hugely disappointing.
