The world's oldest performance muffler is now available for that "resto-rod" or your 1950's custom. Get the muffler your dad used to impress his friends, and yes, it's still guaranteed not to blow out or leak. Double end cap construction and 3 1/2 inch hammertone finished cases assure the original Smithy look.

Poor quality construction
Ordered two of these mufflers to replace the same kind that lasted 15 years. They have been on my truck 3,000 miles and 1 month. Both mufflers leak along the end to end seams, so bad on one that I had to put a hose clamp around it. On cool mornings when the exhaust steams a little when the engine starts, I can see the exhaust vapors coming out the seams. This is right below the cab and I can smell exhaust fumes when stopped at lights. Muffler shop welded them in so I’m stuck with them for now. Truck is a 51 Ford with flathead 8.

Read carefully..
Installed these today...ok, so, mounted these on a Ford FE, close to the manifold, and then a 2" pipe turned out before rear wheels. So far, they have a nice mellow tone but get throaty with throttle. Hoping they'll burn out a little, and rap out.So...the "Inlet->" side on one of them was stamped backwards...showing inlet for the closed end of the louvers...made in MexicoUPDATE: After driving these for a few miles, i love em. Nice throaty rumble and power tone...with a hint of "tinny" sound...i think due to the thin constructed case, or maybe how its seemed together.

Great mufflers for that old school mellow hot rod sound.
I purchased a pair of these for my 1954 Ford with a Ford 302 swap, and they sound amazing. Mellow, old school hot rod sound on an engine that is typically pretty hard to get to sound good (assuming you aren't looking for a raspy muscle car type sound). Obviously my installation was custom, so its hard to write anything helpful there, but quality seems to be top notch and like I said, I couldn't be happier with the sound. All that at a great price! If you're looking for a louder, harsher sound, get something shorter... the longer you go the more mellow the sounds will be.
