This is the classic book on Chinese painting. Cahill is the master. My own interest is mostly in Japanese woodblock prints of the Edo period, and it is fascinating to "compare and contrast."

You will gain a good understanding of Chinese painting history, especially the attached color plates are not only helpful , they are also a joy to look through.

I bought this book without high expectation for its quality, after all, it's a second-hand book which was published a few decades ago and is older than my age. However, the moment I opened this book, I was impressed by the state of the book. Although the corners and edges of the cover are slightly weathered, considering that it was printed in the 70s, I appreciate the predecessor for his/her care for the book.
