but best purchased by those with an actual
An interesting, intriguing, and informative book, but best purchased by those with an actual, genuine, sincere interest in awakening Ajna chakra, and in understanding many associated aspects & considerations of such an endeavour.I would not consider it a complete treatise on Ajna chakra, but it's certainly a worthwhile and informative one (along with Satyananda's classic and excellent 'Kundalini Tantra').It is readable by the casual layperson, but not really relevant to the casual layperson in the way that other more mainstream books on, say, Westernised hatha yoga, can be (Erich Schiffmann's Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving into Stillness is a nice book suitable for fans of mainstream hatha yoga). For the casual reader looking to usefully broaden their understanding of yoga, beyond the mainstream, then (of the BHY titles) a more appropriate book would be Niranjanananda's 'Yoga Darshan', which provides quite a wide-ranging overview of many facets of yoga, without getting too dry or esoteric, yet retaining a good deal of worthwhile substance, and written by an author who clearly knows his subject very well, both experientially and intellectually. For anyone (both the semi-sincere-yet-casual reader AND the genuinely-serious yoga aspirant) wishing to imbibe a meaningful sense of what it means to be a true, real-deal, yogi, I HIGHLY recommend Manmoyanand's 'Sivananda Buried Yoga'.

Awakening the Ajna Chakra
Ajna Chakra is the sixth primary chakra, as per Yogic tradition. It is situated in the skull, directly behind the eyebrow centre and superficial activation site is between eye brows and considered as third eye. It is symbolically denoted as round in shape and in white color. It has two white petals, said to represent the psychic channels, Ida and Pingala. The letters 'Ham' is written on the left petal, and 'ksham' on the right petal, representing Shiva and Shakti, respectively. These petals also represent the manifest and unmanifest mind, and are said by some to represent the pineal and pituitary glands. As per Yogic traditions, these two white petals represented by Ida and Pingala, meet with the central Sushumna nadi (channel) before rising to the crown chakra, Sahasrara, as part of Kundalini raising. This book has 9 chapters and an appendix for 'sat chakra nirupanam'. First 3 chapters is based on latest scientific theories matching to ancient Samkhya and Yoga philosphies of the vedic religion and the role of ajna chakra. Next 3 chapters are on importance of Ajna Chakra and its place in Kundali and Tantras. Last 3 chapters are discussing Psycho-Physiological aspaects, Psychic and Mystic connections and Yoga pratices for activating Ajna Chakra.
