German Slanguage: A Fun Visual Guide to German Terms and Phrases (English and German Edition)

The people reviewing this product do not seem to realize that is not a way to learn the language but a comedy book for people that already know some German.Seriously. Did the cute drawings above some of the words and the comic style of the book not tip you off that it was meant to be funny and not informative?Anyways. For people who know the language somewhat well and have a sense of humor this book is a good laugh and a great gift!

Like the concept but wish they had more tourist friendly words or questions not random words, many of which wouldn't apply if traveling there. But only $10, why not...kill time on flight over!

I love learning this way. The only thing that would make it better was if the German spelling was accompanied with the pronunciation.

It's mainly to communicate in simple ways I find it helpful.

It's OK for a beginer but it leaves alot out. The words and illistrations are good but it's really hard to make a sentence with it. It needs a few more words and numbers with some instructions or examples on how to string them together in order to be able to half way communicate. All in all it's a fun book if you just want to play around with it but don't think you can use it if you are in Germany.

These SLanguage books are great for kids and adults. This is the second series I bought. The first were the Spanish SLanguage. I was so pleased, I ordered the German ones.

I have the Chinese Slanguage book by Mr. Ellis, and I enjoyed it so much I decided to purchase this one. I love the concept behind these books, because it makes pronunciation fun and approachable, but I was disappointed to see the vocabulary that was chosen for the German book. For the most part, the words chosen were either so similar to the English word that it defeated the purpose of this format (many times, it's simply a different syllable being stressed) or the word was obscure enough to be pretty impractical as far as functional use. I realize that the small size of this book indicates that it's not intended to be a stand-alone language translator, but I have a German friend that I thought I could use a few common daily phrases with, and the only ones included in the book were ones that are already pretty commonly known. Had I been able to preview the entire book, I wouldn't have purchased it.

Absolutely love these books. This was a gift to myself and a great comical and also useful book to have around. Learning a language can get tedious in format but this is how I was shown in school. This book revived memories and was also a nice break from the traditional learning.

So fun, great refresher of the language or a fun starting point!
