One for the scaredy cats
Alexis Warren a.k.a Alex is a bad girl, in the sense that she is a misfit, at home as well as at school. Her hair is dyed pink, she does not like wearing dresses, bunks most of her classes, hangs out with the Doom Squad - a group of emo kids; but finds herself not identifying with any person or group.Alex naturally does not have many friends at school. She is a loner who spends most of her time photographing things, and failing to teach her little sister Kasey the art. She blames it on her sister's lack of skill. Alex has high test scores and a lot of potential according to her Headmistress, but she ends up doing things that earns her detentions in the order of two digits within a month. So yes, she is THAT student. Now, Kasey is obsessed with her doll collection. Mix horror and dolls, and you must know where this is going. This book has a fair number of tried and tested tropes like lights appearing out of nowhere, colour changing eyes, and the regular horror stuff. The Warrens have the oldest house on the block, probably the oldest in town. So, also put in an architectural jumble of a house where the sisters live with their parents. This house definitely has a history. Which horror story house doesn't?So is the story predictable? To an extent yes, but the reason why the spirit or ghost or whatever you call it is doing what it is doing was unpredictable, to me, at least. And that reason is exactly why I liked this book. The way this story is written does not seem dragged, as is the case with many works in this genre, ahem, Stephen King, not sorry!Pick this book up if:* You are basically a scaredy cat but still want to read horror.* Evil dolls don't creep you out.* You like a bit of humor ( dark ones included ), along with your horror.* You want a fast read that will keep you occupied.

An entertaining book
As originally seen at [...]:I had this book on my “To Read List” for a long time. I was a little bit afraid that it would be the same as many other ghosts stories in YA books. First of all, I loved the way Alender writes. She doesn’t give away the important information, maintaining the suspense and mystery of the story. The characters are well built and the plot is consistent and interesting.Alexis is perfect for the main character of this story. I couldn’t help feeling empathy for her in some parts of the story. Kasey is her younger sister, who has a passion for dolls of all types. When Kasey starts acting weird and many strange things start happening at the same time, Alexis seems to be the only person of their family noticing it. She finds herself in a difficult situation, because she loves her sister, but Kasey is not the same person anymore (at least not every time) and her actions can seriously harm those around them, including their family and even Kasey herself.Yes, it has some high school drama, but it doesn’t distract you from the other side of the plot. In fact, this teenage-life part of the plot it’s necessary for the whole plot to come together and make sense. The descriptions are very well made, especially the ones about Alexis’ house. Many times I found myself picturing the characters in a house like the ones we see in horror movies, making the plot come alive in there. It didn’t make me feel excited like the feeling I have sometimes that makes me want to keep reading more and more, but it’s an entertaining book and easy to read. After finishing reading this first book, I want to read the other books of the series. It’s not a book that will keep you awake at night because you are afraid of what is in the dark, but it gave me chills now and then.

I don't normally write reviews on anything but this book is amazing, everyone should read it. I found one of the book trailers on Youtube about 5 years ago for the second book "From Bad To Cursed" which had Bella Thorne play the main character, i was hooked and i needed to get these books!!! Ever since then i have loved these books so much, they seriously need to be made into a film that would be amazing!!

Good but not scary
This book was recommended to me a lot and so after ages of wanting to buy it I finally did and the book was very good, the plot captured me, but I didn't find it scary as most people claimed it to be. I don't get scared easily so that may just be me, overall it was a good book.
