Most practical book on the topic of FMEA and RCM
Truly relevant to the real world problems. I highly recommend this book to anyone who considers using these methodologies in their industry for the first time.

Finally, a text on FMEAs!
As a beginner, this comprehensive collection of knowledge and experience was a breath of fresh air! Carl sets the stage with sections on history, theory, definitions, and principles. He then drills into practice with sections on preparation, procedure, facilitation, and follow up. Sections on case studies, lessons learned, and even FMEA software selection address the “nitty-gritty nuts-and-bolts”, and then sections on special cases and other related analysis round-out the book and tie FMEA into the bigger picture of safety and reliability. Plentiful diagrams are helpful for us visual learners. I’ve reviewed an FMEA standard that detailed the content of FMEA, but it was missing the how’s, why’s, and next steps that Carl covers here. The information is organized well, and so it works as a reference. It’s somewhat narrative with Carl’s personal style sprinkled in, and so it also reads well from cover-to-cover. His book helps you to take a broad method and figure out how to apply it to your project. I suspect after 5 more years of experience with FMEAs I’ll still be digging nuggets out of Carl’s book.

Wrong Book
The book title from out side shows Effective FMEA but inside it is a different book. It looks like it is a publisher fault in book binding and bonded the wrong book inside the hard cover.

Content is excellent, quality of the actual book, not so great
If you are a novice in the world of FMEA, this book is an outstanding resource. It is written as a college textbook so there is a lot of repetition to increase the chance that the student will retain the knowledge. If you are an experienced FMEA user, you will likely find an industry guide such as AIAG more helpful. The reason I rated this as low as I did is because after less than 2 weeks of use, the book started to fall apart. Very disappointed in the folks at Wiley. I have textbooks from my days in college that are over 15 years old that are in better shape than this book. If not for this quality issue, I would have rated it 5 stars. Save yourself the hassle and get the Kindle version.

Very helpful resource
Carl's Effective FMEAs book is one of five books that populate the top shelf in the book case next to my desk where I keep the books I reference most often. I appreciate his detailed and methodical descriptions and numerous examples at all levels. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, this book will help you do a better job in anticipating and mitigating failures in your designs.

The best FMEAs book I ever read
Carl Carlson share his rich experiense with us, he introduce all type of FMEAs into one book to give your an centrialize place to learn it what you want. His experiense will better guide us how to perform FMEAs more effective and doing right at the first time, many examples include for reference which give you more insight for FMEAs.Personally I learned a lot form his book and him, he is the man willing to share with you and talk with you for FMEAs and others. In a word, this is the best FMEAs book I ever read, you should consider this book too.

Did not care for the method of writing or overall. Not applicable to developing PM/PdM programs so much as design.
I am very familiar with FMEAs and thought I might pick up some additional knowledge. The book is full of repetitiveness, but learned nothing new. The style of writing made me want to quit reading numerous times, but plowed through it. Donated it to the local library upon completion...not worth keeping as a reference. Note that I purchased for use with existing equipment evaluation in determining predictive and preventive maintenance programs and the book did not address this, although some similarity in usage. I would say I hate it, but it could have some usefulness to someone new to the topic. I would also say that the examples were incomplete (supposedly on purpose), but leaving a distaste for a good full example of an FMEA.

Practical, thorough, well-organized & well-written
I think the author did an FMEA on the FMEA process itself. The resulting actions on how to prepare for, execute (and how not to) & integrate the FMEA process into other reliability processes is explained well. The book is worth the money for the FMEA participant and facilitator.

Takes the mystery out of FMEA
This is an excellent treatise on FMEAs. The text is clear and the examples fully illustrate the points being made. If only I had it years ago!!!!

All you need to know about FMEA
Excellent book written from an experienced author with very useful tips on how to make FMEA useful in product development rather than an after-the-fact piece of documentation. Recommended for design engineers and supporting functions alike.
