beautiful book
we bought this for a birthday gift for a 9-yo boy who was having a rock-themed party. He loved it. It was very detailed, and I loved looking at the pictures. All of the rocks are colored on the cover, so you know what the rocks look like. It looked very detailed to me, and I do not know if I would give it to just any 9-yo, but it was perfect for this child.

Perfect geology gift
Got this for a close friend who loves all things geological. Unsurprisingly, she loved it. I flipped though it before I gave it away and it looked educational too. Would be super fun to color for anyone, adult or kid.

Needs All Images Labeled with Page Numbers, Phonetic Pronunciation Guide Needed
This is one of several coloring books I purchased for my daughter a while back when we were home schooling her for a brief period of time. This was one of a couple geology based coloring books I purchased, and this was one we didn't get to. And she's not ever had a desire to color in it, but I saw her flipping through it and reading it the other night, so I asked her about it, why it wasn't one she had wanted to color in, and how she would rate it.She said she would rate it 4 stars, and I agree with that, but we have different reasons. Her reason is that it's great for someone who likes to color something exactly like a picture that is provided, but if you have more imagination, it's not as appealing. She says she prefers to make up her own coloring schemes, and when you're coloring something like rocks and minerals where you are supposed to replicate the image, she's not interested. But she found the information cool and likes the subject matter. My reason for thinking it's 4 stars is that there needs to be a phonetic pronunciation provided for some of the names of the minerals and compounds with which children would be less familiar. There is not. I think it's great there's an overview in the beginning. I think however, it is a bit confusing that only some of the minerals shown are labeled with a page number. Most of the colored images of the rocks and minerals appear on the inside flaps and are listed with a page number. However, there are three on the front of the cover and three on the back that don't list a page number. My daughter found that confusing, and I can see why.Overall, I think this is a great coloring book. As a child, I would have eaten this one up and, even though I like to color outside if the lines and come up with my own schemes for things too, for things like minerals and animals I was quite happy to replicate nature's beauty. So every child is different, and my daughter's thoughts may not be those of your kiddo, but they are the reason she gave it 4 stars and doesn't want to color in it.

Rocks and Minerals
This book arrived in excellent condition and, as I hope to use it in my science classes, I am sure it will be quite helpful to me and my students.I was so happy to find this item on Amazon. Amazon has helped me tremendously supply my classroom with necessary learning materials over the years!

Much more that a coloring book
I admit I am slightly biased, since this book was written and illustrated by my granduncle, who is absolutely brillant. That being said, however, this little coloring book contains an excellant introduction to minerals that describes morphology and classification. It includes a description of several simple methods for testing minerals. In short, your small children will think the pictures are pretty, and your high school science student will find it educational.Kenneth S. Burns, Jr. MD

Interesting.
A good way to learn something about rocks and minerals. There is a short introduction at the front of the book. Each page gives the name and make up of the rock or mineral, where it can be found and other interesting details. The inside covers show the actual colours but you can still colour them any colour you want. Printed on both sides of the page.
