My son actually does these!
For a list of reasons, anxiety being at the top, my soon to be 6th grader did not perform well the second half of 5th grade. He says he hates school and his reluctance to do school work backs up his statement. I gave these a go hoping to catch him up on some topics, or at least keep school skills in practice. He had all kinds of drama about being "forced by mom" to do summer work. However, I walked him through this book showing him the design. It is not overwhelming! Short stories, short vocabulary lists, one sentence (not 10 like school) and one page of comprehension questions. It appeared "doable" to my reluctant child (He is bright, but overly anxious about any writing task). The first day was dramatic getting started, but the stories are entertaining and we saw some reluctance give way. He now does 2 stories per day during and after breakfast. Great project for my reluctant kid!!!!

Good amount of information for a younger grade level
This book has a broad collection of I formation from places and events around the world. Itās a little light on details even though itās for 5th grade. My 5th grade daughter is being homeschooled and given the chance, I wouldāve gone with the 6th or 7th grade book since this is below her reading level after looking through it. I might go ahead and save it for my 2 younger girls for their 3rd grade social studies when they get there and buy my oldest something a little more challenging for this year.

Not super impressed
The assignments are fairly easy. I'm kind of surprised this isn't more for a third or fourth grade level. I got this for my fifth grade son, who's entering middle school next year. Each lesson is just three paragraphs reading, and five questions that you answer. The questions aren't great. Some of the questions are good to see if your child completed the reading and understood it, but there's always one or two questions that even I am stumped on, because they're tricky and it's not information they gave you in the reading... It's more deductive reasoning

Not overwhelming for 10 year old with autism š
Iām a former teacher and homeschool mom of 2 kidsācurrently using this book for my 10 year old son who has autism. Iām very impressed! The stories are informative and engaging and he really looks forward to reading them, which is usually not the case. I attribute this to the way the book is designed: interesting stories, detailed enough to be challenging, yet not too long, lengthy and overwhelming. He enjoys searching for the vocabulary words. Highly recommend for kids who struggle with focus and comprehension or those who just need practice with comprehension!

Amazing Social Studies Curriculum
Love it. Very thankful I stumbled across this workbook!! I've been homeschooling for 3 years and this is BY FAR my favorite social studies curriculum! I would highly recommend it. The stories are engaging and. have led to so many great conversations and deeper research. I plan on continuing to buy more volumes.

Engaging -- to child and adult!
Such engaging stories. I have another in the series for a different age group in science. I by far enjoy the humor and twists to this book the best. Ruth, please keep up the wit and make more! My child loves reading these. Nice to have the child engaged in reading -- and learning!I am using this for a child in a younger grade. Not too hard to read. I purchased it because I read the "look inside" pages and knew my kid would love it even if it was labeled above grade level.

Not impressed
My son struggles with comprehension so I bought these and thought they would be good for homeschooling. 3 days in and I am not impressed. The passages are decently written but the questions are obscure as to what answer is correct. Even I was struggling seeing where they were getting certain answers.

A godsend!@
This is excellent material. Our grandson has been a little behind on reading. We really wanted him as close to his level as possible by next school year (6th).He does one per day after online classes are complete. This has helped tremendously!!!! Wonderful to watch him grow and develop more confidence as he understands how this helps his comprehension skills.
