Talkability: People Skills for Verbal Children on the Autism Spectrum; A Guide for Parent

Highly Recommended
I purchased this on the recommendation of a multi-disciplinary team that assess children for autism. It is an excellent book. It is written in clear and accessible language, is usefully illustrated and well structured. It is aimed at children between 3 and 7 who may have a diagnosis of Aspergers, high functioning autism or no diagnosis at all but who experience difficulties with social interactions. However I think it would be of use to any parent who wants to develop their child's language and social skills. It has useful checklists to help a parent establish what a child's needs are. I would also recommend it to teachers, as it has plenty of clearly explained approaches to take to help children develop theses skills. It also explores sensory issues in a way that is easily grasped. It is very much child-centred as well, focussing very positively on the child's development.

Excellent readable resource- NOT just for Aspergers/HFA.
Recommened by SALT for my verbal autistic 4 year old (not aspergers or HFA- has had speech delays ) who has social communication difficulties but was too advanced for the more than words courses they ran. Very easy to read and nicely illustrated and brought back to me how much of social communication i take for granted!i have found this a very useful resource and recommend it. it would also be helpful for children with ADHD who have social communication difficulties and other ASN children not just aspergers.

Very basic
This privides a good overview of the issues children with autism face and some ideas for overcoming them, however it is quite superficial and lacks in the area of hands on/ real life suggestions/games etc which parents could engage in.
