Surveying the battlefield...
In this Osprey Weapon Series book, experienced author Chris McNab surveys the recent use of small arms by the U.S. Special Operations Command. There is a quick introduction to U.S. SOCOM, followed by a long discussion of the variety of weapons that have been used by various elements of U.S. SOCOM. Embedded in the discussion is the evolving criteria for the selection of these weapons. The narrative is supported by a nice selection of photographs, diagrams, and illustrations. For this reviewer, the most interesting part of the book was the last two chapters, in which the author explores a couple of real-life examples of use, and speculates briefly on the future of these weapons. While there may be few if any surprises here for readers who follow this topic closely, the general reader may find it very useful as a survey of recent special operations weapons use. Recommended to that audience.

Good photos, so so content
This book has some interesting photos - although most of them are public domain. The text, unfortunately, leaves a lot to be desired. It combines some of the usual cliches, along with quotes from random interviews, with little insight.
