Night life of Trees

Exquisite. . .
This is no ordinary book but rather, 18 artworks, screenprinted by 3 of India's finest contemporary artists and each one accompanied by a short tale or an anecdote. Each of the artists belongs to the Gond tribe of Central India, a tribe well-known within India for two things : its love of storytelling and its love for, and devotion to, trees. Each of the artworks depicts an Indian tree, dramatic against a totally black background, and is executed in the traditional Gond style, a style which is in many ways very simple but which seems to glow. As a non-artist, I can't say quite how this effect has been achieved. Gonds believe that trees have spirits, that they are, in many cases, deities. And this is where the storytelling comes in : trees do not just provide shade and prevent erosion, they also nourish and protect the soul. As I've said, this is more than just another book. It's wise, powerful, and very beautiful. I'm finding myself meditating on each of the images.

This is such a beautiful book. All hand printed designs on lovely dark paper. We bought one for ourselves and have bought two more to give to our favourite friends as it is so special. It is a real work of art. It reaches into your soul as you study each page. I totally recommend it to anyone with an appreciation of beautiful things and tactile books.

Trees that glow in the night
Amazing illustrations together with evocative texts on mythological Indian trees are presented in this album-like book, one of the finest I came across. The scent of the paper makes us imagine the book being produced. It isn't possible to not love it.

Beautiful silkscreen printed illustrated book
Stunning hand printed book from India. The quality of the thick india paper, the smell of the ink and the beautiful illustrations combined with the story is an absolute buy. It i a limited edition and the price is great. Here in europe you would be paying premium for a silkscreen printed book. Trust me, this is a collectable of the future.

Beautiful book.
It was really a surprise the first time I saw "The Night Life of Trees" in my hands. The black-colour contrast is amazing; if you add the fact that this book is hand made, finally you understand that is a real jewel. I am very happy with the book. Highly recommended. un beau livre à garder
très beau livre. numéroté car sérigraphié'à la main. très peu de texte, donc c'est la qualité de l'impression et le papier et l'esprit derrière les dessins qui est importante.

Beautiful and unique.
This has got to be one of the most unique and unusual books I have ever owned. It brings together two of my favorite things: art and trees. Each page of art in this book is hand silk screened on heavy black paper. Once the pages are silk screened, they are bound together in a very appealing binding. The prints depict trees from India, along with a bit of the history and folk lore associated with each particular tree. This book is a numbered edition of only 2,000 copies. You can see how it was created by going to You Tube and typing in "tara books". Definitely a small scale, local operation. The artists are amazing. And the price is very inexpensive for a book of hand printed silk screened prints.
