Monarch Flat Black Powder Coated Aluminum Hammer Rain Chain, 8.5-Feet

These are beautiful and add a nice touch to my backyard. But they don't work. With light rain (simulated with a hose in my gutter) they work just fine. The water trickles down and they make a nice waterfall sound. But turn up the hose to a reasonably hard rain and they fail. It's not the 3'x3' splash pattern they make on the ground that bothers me; that's acceptable. The problem is that the water pours down into a cup, hits the side, then careens off and shoots right through the hole at the bottom and misses the lower cup entirely. So you get this stream of water shooting out of the chain hitting whatever is in its way, including the house if that's the direction it happens to be headed. I thought maybe there was a problem with the way the water was being injected from the gutter so as a test I wrapped the first two cups up in saran wrap. Unfortunately this simply moved the exit location of the jet to a lower cup. I think the fundamental problem is that the cups are not tall enough. The cup needs to fill and absorb the turbulence before pouring down into the next cup. I ordered another chain with a deeper cup and I will soon find out if I am right or delusional.

Aesthetic, easily installed, and functional. We were able to connect 2 sets together to get the length needed for our raised foundation house. Make sure you measure the length you need before ordering, you may need to purchase more if your house is taller than the standard length.

Very attractive looking. Does not function well. Water hits the first cup and get diverted out of the chain. Don’t buy!

My wife and I purchased this Rain chain manly for the looks/Color it is Very functional and looks Great in it's setting! My dislike would be the mounting hardware was a little bit on the lite side. But over all a good product!

The media could not be loaded.  Really like the way these work. They look so much nicer than gutters especially on our A-frame cedar beams. Felt like gutters would have really junked up the look for the bulky cedar beam. These were also easy to install. Have been through three or four heavy down pours and they have held up nicely done the expected job.

These thing are junk! The first small rain we had they looked great, but the minute we had more rainfall (1/2 inch in 24 hrs) they completely failed; water running/splashing all over. I shutter to think what would have happened in one of our winter "gully washers"! We have a 2000 square foot house, and these could not handle the rain water from 1/3 of the back roof. And they would not let us return them....BEWARE!

Works well when it is sprinkling but during normal rain unable to handle the water coming down.

The only complaint i have on these is that any leaves or debris that go through the gutter have a tendency to get stuck in them and cause the flow of water to eb disrupted. It will cause water to splash erratically off of the chain. You just have to stay on top of your gutter cleaning and they will be fine. Other than that they function well and look great.

I love the way they look when they are hanging from the gutter. They are appealing in their appearance giving an antique look to the viewer.

It's pretty good, looks nice, but does splash a fair bit. Best installed far away from a wall or anythign else you don't want to get splashed. It's supplied from a small to medium size roof. I have another type of rainchain elsewhere and that one performs better, but this ones still performs better than others I've had.

Lots of water still splashes around as the water flows down through the rain chain but it does capture the majority of it. Works perfectly for my purposes and I love how it looks! Do be sure to check the length you need, you may need to order more than one chain.
