Texas Cactus
I love this little book on the cactus of Texas. It is small enough to carry into the field for on the spot identification. It uses the latest nomenclature, good color photos, range maps, and descriptions. There are close-up photos of the flower, the fruit, and the spines of the 80 species listed in this book. There is a helpful section with comparisons between the identified cactus and other similar cacti. The only fault I find with the book is in the index. The index lists the cactus only by common name. There are many common names for each cactus. Some of the common names in the index are not names I am familiar with. I had to add the common name I use or the scientific name to the index to be able to use it. I consider this a minor problem and would recommend this field guide.

Good resource, frustrating for botanists
Good pictures, helpful text and convenient size make this a good resource. However: I could not for the life of my figure out how the species were organized within each subsection (not alphabetical, not by latin name...). It seemed like they were just in random order. Also, I could have used an index by latin name and there wasn't one. So I knocked off a star. It's still a good guide, just poorly organized.
