There is no asbestos in Andek Firegard. Andek Firegard is listed by the Asbestos Information Council as a safe encapsulant for surfaces that may contain asbestos.

Per the Q & A section on Amazon, Andek Corporation answered this question Link: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/asin/B07BGTCZM4/1/ref=ask_ql_psf_ql_hza?sort=SUBMIT_DATE and stated that Yes you could use a good quality acrylic topcoat over it. We may decide to use an acrylic topcoat that has a more glossy sheen with an another fire retardant additive added into it. This will be for aesthetic purposes and dirt resistance reasons only, if we do it. Two coats of the Andek Firegard provided a tough well covered Flat finish on our exterior home trim, porch railings and open patio ceiling. although the manufacturer states the finish is Satin.

Yes, provided that it is a good quality acrylic paint.

Q: How long does a coating last?

A top coat is recommended--on top of the FIREGARD. I assume that the top-coat paint will last as long as usual, which is typically years for most paints, and that the top coat will protect and preserve the FIREGARD. However, I do not know whether the intumescent property of FIREGARD lasts indefinitely. Ask Andek for their test results on this aspect.
