Interesting
Interesting look at techniques from different koryu and sword schools. Good pictures and decent explanations - definately not a teaching manual, but martial arts fans/buffs will enjoy this book

Bought to complete a collection like a lot of Koryu books neither enough detail to build a skill or understand more than general concepts. Mr Tanaka is .. well rather young to be Soke of so very many arts..

A Great Read For Musashi's Sword Strategies
Once again another fantastic book by Soke Fumon Tanaka. This book goes into great detail about one of the most famous Samurai Swordsman ever to live. There are a lot of books out there right now on Miyamoto Musashi's life story, but this book focuses moreon how he actually defeated his opponents with a rare insight to his fighting techniques.A MUST read for all dedicated Kobudo students.

seller posted quickly, the book is for covering the historical techniques, not the actual system ( which changed over time).for me it was worth the purchase, if your wanting his life story then get the lone samurai by william scott wilson.

A quick glance at some sword styles in Japan.
This is not a technical nor historical book. It feels like a photo book covered by few sentences to give a better presentation. There's hardly any footnotes at all in reference to the historical information. And there isn't much info regarding each styles. There's a better book for historical info on sword styles by Sergio Mol.There are many typos, such as Yagiyu (Yagyu), Kangawa (Kanagawa), etc (I have never seen a book with so many typos). Some photos presented are very dark. The authors martial titles are listed on the book jacket. But in the contents it kept reminding the reader I'm soke of this style or that style...... (really, do we need that).Overall, it feels like this book was done in a rush for the market.
