A Very Special Edition
Not only are all the George and Martha books here— funny and full of wisdom about friendship—but this special edition has some wonderful extras. Maurice Sendak wrote the forward and a cast of other famous children’s book authors wrote short memories of James Marshall, the author of the George and Martha books: David Wiesner, Susan Meddaugh, Jon Scieszka, Marc Brown, Jack Gantos and others. It’s truly a collector’s edition. It’s a bit heavy for a child to hold, but lovely to have a child by your side as you read from one book to the next (they won’t let you stop!)

Just as wonderful now as they were 30+ years ago!
I absolutely loved these books as a child. I never owned one myself, but they were my favorite ones to read and check out of the elementary school library. The stories were so funny! I saw this collection and thought it would be great for my 3 year old twins. I gave it to them as a birthday gift and it became an immediate favorite. We read a few stories every single day, and they never get boring. It's been a few months now and the kids' interest in the book hasn't waned a bit. It's still their favorite!

An Absolute Family Favorite!
I have read this whole book (which is a compilation of the smaller books - each with 5 stories) at least 20 times. Yes, the whole thing. My 3 year old requested it nightly (as well as any other times that were good for reading) for several months. We had certain favorites, stories that made us all laugh out loud, like "The Trip" and "The Attic" and "The Mirror" and "The Surprise" as well as some that were absolutely heartwarming like "The High Board" and "The Garden" and "The Book" and "The Secret Club". All the stories are so wonderfully distilled, powerful but simple at the same time. I love that they weren't overly explicit about all the emotions and thoughts that George and Martha felt and thus packed a ton of powerful lessons into just a small amount of enjoyable words on every page. As a parent, there are a lot of books my kids like that I absolutely have grown to hate (Chikka Chikka Boom Boom anyone?), but this is completely the opposite. I find that I enjoy these stories more every time that I read them. I wish I had heard of them sooner. They deserve to be on all of the Children's Book Classics lists.

Classic in my home
I used to read these stories to my son. Now he is 30 and has a son of his own. He was so excited when I gave him this book to read to his son. We have great memories cuddled up and getting to know George and Martha.

Very cute book
Hi All - this is a big book with all the George and Martha Stories as comments in between.I think this is good for 5 year old and up -- because it is bigger and little toddlers could probably rip the pages easily.

Awesome!!!
Amazing, awesome book!1) the stories are exceptional - fun, smart, age appropriate. We had George and Martha small book, and decided to get the full stories book then. Indeed, all of the stories are collected here.2) quality of paper and quality of print is impeccable3) each page has a large image, texts are suitable to read for 3 years old and elder, of it is suitable for self-reading level 3 and up.Loved it - and my daughter loved it too (what is more important of course)

My family still remembers these stories 30 years later!
These stories were favorites when my siblings and I were children, but what's more remarkable, perhaps, is how my family continues to refer to the situations in the stories (e.g. George pouring the soup in his loafers because he doesn't want to tell Martha he doesn't like split peas soup, George running around nervous all day waiting for Martha to scare him back but she forgot...until later). This hardbound version has all the paperbacks stories bound into one and makes a great gift for older siblings when a new baby is born. These stories are about friendship and teach values in parable format that is both fun and memorable. The illustrations are wonderful with the two hippopotami. A true classic!

The best for a giggle
When I was first entering elementary school, my parents were concerned over my lack of interest in learning to read. I was perfectly satisfied to have people read to me, but I hadn't any interest in learning myself. So my mom (a children's librarian) bought George and Martha books for me but refused to read them to me. I was so desperate to figure out what was going on in the funny pictures, that I finally gave in to learning to read.George and Martha are such great friends and a great read for all ages!

Timeless classic that will make you laugh out loud
The stories are so short and simple on the surface, but also subtle and moving. This was among the favorites for all three of my daughters. I have read these stories hundreds of times, and I still laugh at Martha waiting to soak George with the garden hose.If this book doesn't make you laugh and if you are not moved by George and Martha, then check your pulse because you must be dead.
