Great scene setter
I bought this after buying the Florence book in Italy, subsequent to our stay in Venice. Captures the essence of the city in scenes and commentary without the formality and "heaviness" of the usual art books.

Must have for Venice visit!
So much fun to read and enjoy the beautiful paintings! Iโve shared it with friends headed to Venice and theyโre having so much fun getting to know Venice before they go. Iโve really enjoyed this book...so much more than a travel guide!

Great reminder of trip.
Bought this for a friend who had recently returned from Venice. I took a look through it before passing it along. Great illustrations and my friend was happy with it. It will be useful for him when looking for shades of color in his paintings.

Venice was GRAND, you NEED this book!
I wish i had time and talent to paint this style, i love it for its simplicity and vast information. Being there brings it all back going through the pages and stories! A MUST HAVE.

Beautiful book
Wanted to buy the Paris sketchbook while in parIs but had no room to bring it home. Was thrilled to find both that book and this one by the same illustrator. Beautiful books!

The books are amazing, but the package of these books were poor and not protected.
When I opened the package, there was no extra protection for these gorgeous books. There are damages on the surface of the hardcovers. I bought them in new, but both of these look second-hand. Therefore, if you are looking for a perfect edition, don't buy it here. The content of this book is wonderful and worth adding to your collection!

Too beautiful
The media could not be loaded. ย Too beautiful. That's how I would describe this book.Venice Sketchbook is one of the series of watercolour sketchbook from Fabrice Moireau, a lover of architecture and gardens. The book was originally released in French and translated to English. I actually bought the French version and upon seeing how much text there is in the book, I promptly ordered the English edition. It's a 96-page hardcover published by Editions Didier Millet. The reproduction of the paintings is excellent. The paper has a watercolour paper texture to it, but much softer. It's almost like looking at the actual paintings. The watercolour paintings are wonderful and charming, and they are printed huge. Together with the captions, they perfectly captures the mood of being in Venice. You can see the details of architecture, the weathering effect on the buildings, Venetians at work, and the lesser known areas hidden from tourists.Fabrice Moireau's watercolour style seems really controlled. You don't see colours crossing over pencil lines. That really makes me think of how much masking he does to achieve to prevent colours from overlapping. It's not like he doesn't overlap, he just doesn't overlap the colours when there's a change in form, like for two buildings.Other than the captions, there are also plenty of text describing the various places in Venice, and the history behind. It's very well researched and interesting to read. This is a terrific travel journal.I highly recommend this book, and all his other books.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog.
