The Art of The Saint John's Bible: The Complete Reader's Guide

This is a complete guide to the illuminations of the St. John’s Bible. Excellent commentary. This is a real gem for churches who have the Heritage edition of the St. John’s Bible. Could be a great resource for religious education or art class of kids and adults.

I have fallen in love with The St. John's Bible, and I am buying the set book by book. This would be way above my budget if purchased new and all at once, but gradually finding reasonable prices on good used volumes is quite economical. This guide book is excellent, sharing insights about the relationships between the illuminations, the text, and the calligrapher and artists working to bring out the beauty of the words. The author asks thoughtful questions of the reader, while telling the story of how it was all done. This book adds greatly to my enjoyment of the work.

The Saint John's Bible is one of the 21st century's truly magnificent artistic creations with its modern art, calligraphy, illuminations, English language format, and overall presentation. Having seen the actual Saint John's Bible and been a docent where it was/is on display in Naples, FL at the Baker Museum, it is a remarkable achievement ... the first hand-written Bible in some 550 years. Whether you are a Protestant or Catholic or not, the Saint John's Bible is a remarkable artistic achievement! Its modern art enhances the beauty of the religious nature of the document.

Interesting commentary. I do wish the book were larger, as its compact size makes it difficult to examine many of the smaller elements of the illuminations. I would love to have the large-sized reproduction books of the various Bible volumns, but they are expensive. This book has allowed me an opportunity to get some sense of the full Bible volumes.

This is a fantastic book. The St. John's Bible comes alive in the meditations and the insights of it's art. This is a book that makes the study of the Holy Scriptures put your heart on fire to experience Jesus in a whole new way.

I saw this exhibit at the Biggs Museum in Dover, De and had to have more information! This book covers all of the illuminations and will be a great reference.

For anyone who has purchased one of the 7 volumes of this Bible or embarking on it, this is a very good guide indeed.
