Great choice of dishes, but not sure on the measurements.
I got this as a gift for a friend and decided bro try the Cheese bread (pão de queijo). It says to use parmesan and feta cheese what are both super salt and to add more 4 tsp of salt. I add half of that and guess what? Way too salt. Definitely use your kitchen knowledge and don't follow the recipes all the way.

Most of the recipes are great, only one so far has not
Me and my brazilian fiancé liked most of what we have made out of this so far but the quindim recipe was a total bust. Proportions were way way off. Overall a decent book buy needs some recipe testers I think.

Recommended by a Brazilian :)
I'm Brazilian, from Rio de Janeiro, and I was looking for a Brazilian cooking book to give as a gift to a friend. I was looking for one that has the most typical food (in Rio and Southwest). Also, I wanted a book that talks a little bit about the Brazilian culture and the typical ingredients, and would make my friend fall in love with Brazilian food as I am.Well, after search in several books, this one is the winner! It has the most original recipes (no changes to make the recipe fancier as I've seen in others books), most of the recipes are exactly the way I'm used to cook at home, and the directions are very well explained, with step-by-step pictures, what makes it way easier for those who are not familiar with the recipe. However, as I said, this book shows recipes that are traditional in Rio de Janeiro and Southwest of Brazil. Brazil is a very very big country and has each region has different traditions. The Southwest food has cultural influences from several other states, but the food that is eaten there is not the same in all Brazil. If you are looking for traditional food from North or Northwest of Brazil, this book might not be what you are looking for.

Not what I was hoping for
I do not know about the authenticity of this cookbook, but I found a lot of the dishes unappealing with ingredients I have never heard of. I did keep a couple of recipes to try and gave the cookbook to Goodwill and ordered Churrasco Grilling the Brazilan Way. I guess I was expecting this cookbook to have some recipes that you would get from a Brazilian steakhouse like Fogo De Chao and that was not the case.

Beautiful book!
I bought this book as a Christmas gift for a friend who had recently visited Brazil and it exceeded my expectations. It has beautiful layout and design, with amazing color photographs - not only of the food but also pictures of Brazil. I chose this book because I had seen the authors blog on Brazilian food - it is worth checking out and you can see the quality of his recipes. [...]

I am born and raised Brazilian and I was looking for a nice Brazilian recipe book for my Canadian boyfriend who kept bugging me for recipes. After trying two other books, I found this one is a winner. It brings a great variety of traditional recipes that are simple to make and tasty. I would give 5 stars to the book if it brought more photos and stories as well.

Great present for someone who’s NOT in Brazil
I bought this as a present for a Brit who loves to cook. I’m Brazilian so I wanted a book that had the “basics” - different from other also great book such as D.O.M and the one from Thiago Castanheiro which are more chef-like with hard to find ingredients if you’re not in Brazil. This book has all! Feijoada, acarajé, caipirinha, pé-de-moleques, empadão de frango, rabada, pastel, pão de queijo and much more with ingredients you can mostly find in any major supermarket (some like cassava you might need to go to an African/South American shop). Definitely worth it and after my extensive research on Brazilian cookbooks in English, this was the best by far.

very pricey for the number of actual recipes
128 pages in all, the recipes don't start until page 20 and the last one is on page 125. Each of the 5 sections starts with a double page spread of picture & comment before you get into the recipes themselves. Then most of the recipes are on a 2 page spread. This means you end up with very few actual recipes for the price. For example, the meat & poultry section has 10 recipes! Would not recommend if you are looking for a good range of Brazilian cuisine!

the food and cooking of brazil
Lovely book, good quality, very well put together with information about Brazil, it's people and cooking history. The recipes and photographs are reassuring and supportive for those (like me) who are new to this fabulous food. This book has not become an 'ornament', it is earning it's keep and worth every penny. Watching a utube of Fernando cooking Feijoada prompted me to make this purchase.
