Herbs Coloring Book (Dover Nature Coloring Book)

Awesome for parents that want to teach their child about the herbs and plants in their garden!
We purchased this for our 2 year old daughter, to help her learn about the herbs in our garden. We are avid gardeners, and our daughter enjoys our garden just as much as we do. I wasn't sure if she'd be interested in this, but she is! She has a sand and water table that is a gardening theme with flower pots, shovels, etc (we purchased it on amazon btw and its great, made by little tikes, this is season two with it and its still in perfect condition!), and a small little tikes picnic table. She likes to sit at her little picnic table and color this book while we garden, then we go over the plant shes colored and compare to the real plant. Great learning experience and she can identify several herbs and flowers already! She also likes to pretend she is planting what shes colored with her little garden center. I'm so glad there are materials like this for parents that want to teach their child about nature, plants, trees, etc. I'm definitely picking up the medicinal plant coloring book made by this brand!

Accurate drawings, useful book
Although this is an older book (mine is from 1977) it is most definitely NOT out of date! Pictures are simple (great for coloring!), yet detailed enough to completely represent the plant. Thirty common herbs are pictured, along with their common name and scientific (Latin) name (although some of those may have changed since the book was produced). No other information about the herbs is included. Colored pictures of all 30 plants appear on the covers (inside and outside) for help in determining just how to color them in. An excellent tool in teaching or reviewing common culinary and medicinal herbs. Herbs included: angelica, anise, basil, bay leaves, borage, calendula, caraway, chervil, chives, coriander, dill, fennel, horehound, lavender, lemon thyme, lemon verbena, mallow, marjoram, oregano, parsley, rose geranium, rosemary, saffron, sage.

Relaxing and Informative
I got 7 of these books and love coloring them. You can get really creative. I don't have an artist's talent, so I enjoy creating my own color combinations, although there are colored pictures of all of them on the covers so you can follow those or come up with your own. These aren't not kids coloring books! They are more detailed, and I use colored pencils on some, fine point gel pens on others and a wide range of felt tip colors on most. I usually do these in the evening when I need to wind down and they work wonders for me. Even without artistic talent, I love my renderings, and I learn how to recognize herbs I see anywhere.

Beautifully done!
Beautifully detailed renditions of 30 herbs with a coloring page for each. A great way to pique the interest of children and enable them to begin to identify common herbs. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that other similar books have write-ups on each page about the plant (or butterfly) to round out the information. This does not. There are so many qualities in herbs, "fragrance, medicine, flavoring and nourishment" (from the back cover) which could easily have been included, and it's a shame they were not. A lovely and useful coloring book notwithstanding!

Coloring favorite herbs helps remind us of the spice life has to offer.
Herbs, such as the ones displayed for coloring, in the Herbs Coloring Book, have been a part of our gardens, for many years. Even though my wife had a stroke, recently, she never lost the memory of those herbs, whether culinary, medicinal or pleasantly scented or displayed. Although she is currently physically limited in visiting our home gardens, she colors those herbs on the pages of this book, with the full expectation of going to the garden, as soon as possible. In so doing, she has used this book as part of a healing therapy that will soon have her back to full functionality. I recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed these herbs, as much as she has.

This coloring book makes it fun to learn how to identify herbs
This coloring book makes it fun to learn how to identify herbs. It takes me awhile to memorize so by coloring the plants it helps me remember. Good quality paper and using my gel pens I don't have to worry about leakage.

Good value. Plenty of very well-drawn images, but outlines are very black.
Lovely no-fuss colouring book for those who like realistic botanical outlines and are interested in herbs. There are a good number of natural-looking outlines of herbs and aromatic plants, each labelled by name. The inside front and back covers have mini full-colour reference pictures of each (they really are small, but better than nothing). The pages have images on both sides and the paper is standard colouring book weight (you can't really expect much else for this price) so I can only really recommend dry Coloured Pencils if you colour in the book. The lines are heavy and black, which I think is unsuitable for this type of delicate picture subject (mid grey would be so much better), but the heavy black lines seem to be the norm so I've given up complaining about them. Neither of these problems will bother me though, as I use a lightbox and colour onto thin watercolour paper.Overall then, as long as you're expecting the usual thick black lines and average paper, it's a great value book as it contains so many well-drawn images.

Big
Much bigger then I thought which is a plus, a little info on the herbs would have been nice though

Okay, but there are better...
It's a nicely-done book of predominantly culinary herbs, which as others have said, doesn't include any information about them, beyond the common and Latin names.
