It comes pretty much assembled so that was nice. Is it dark? Yes. But I find it on the darker end of cherry, but still cherry. Very well made & holding drawers full of files with no issues. If your file stick up a little higher because of the hanging file, it can accommodate it without any issue.

This 4-drawer lateral file cabinet is a good value compared to similar but uglier alternatives. My unit is a dark chocolate brown; looks darker than in the photo, but I am happy about it because it matches more closely to my other furniture. Is "lightly distressed" (dents here and there) on purpose to give it a somewhat faux-antique look. Made from plywood and vaneer (no particle-board) and steel internal rails for holding hanging files. Only one drawer opens at-a-time, for anti-tip-over safety. Also comes with a (somewhat wimpy) tie-strap for fastening to the wall to prevent tip-over in earthquakes or climbing children. Comes with two keys for the top drawer. NOTE: Only the top drawer locks, it does NOT lock all drawers simultaneously like some other file cabinets do. When closing, drawers have a detent such that you get a haptic feedback when fully seated. Shipped with the handles installed inside-out to prevent damage during shipment; you have to uninstall and reinstall them the correct way (use phillips-head screwdriver). Otherwise comes fully assembled. I am very happy as it will meet my needs and looks great.

It's a nice piece of furniture marred by two minor but annoying thing: one is the "slight distressing" which looks like small sets of holes were pressed into the wood every so often; the piece would look much better with the finish as it was before that was done. The other is that detail work along the top face is done with rough edges, so that dust cloths get stuck on them. Otherwise still a pretty good value.Susan L.St. Paul, MN

This file cabinet is well made and what I wanted. However, the color is way off and didn't blend with my desk. The color shown is not correct. It is very red. Sadly, I had to return it.

Much, much darker than the picture; almost black. Does not match the other wood colors in my office, but I decided to keep it and stuck it in the closet. Sturdy, well made, and arrived well packed and OK, but they should get a better photo so more folks are not disappointed in the color, as this was a rather pricey item.

This filing cabinet is fantastic, the drawers open and close with little effort, the wood (real wood) is very nice, the drawers are big, all my folders and files fitted nicely and I still have room left.Great product, great quality and finish, solid as a rock; highly recommended, it is worth every penny spent. Last filing cabinet I'll have to buy, unless my files grow then I'll get another one just like this one.

I am missing the drawer pulls on the bottom drawer. I would prefer you aend them to me rather than me returning the entire cabinet

The cabinets are well built. It's a little tight when you're putting a folder in them. They also have a bar across the center that makes it more difficult when you are looking for files.
