Batman: The Brave and the Bold: The Complete Second Season [Blu-ray]

The best Batman since BTAS; Battle of the Superheroes IS on the Season 3 Blu ray set of B&TB
It's very hard to follow up Batman:The Animated Series, Superman: TAS, and Justice League/Unlimited: TAS but they managed to follow up the DCAU (the Alan Burnett/Paul Dini/Bruce Timm animated DC Universe) with the last classic DC TV series produced.I'm not much a fan of nihilist pop culture (the last 30 years or so of pop culture, ratcheted up in the last 10 years particularly) so that is to say I haven't enjoyed much of the last decade of animated superhero action. This Brave and the Bold series, however, was a great way to end the classic "golden age" of superhero/action adventure series that began with Batman The Animated Series way back in 1992.I'm glad they went with a light-hearted feel AND that they teamed up Batman (himself modeled after the classic Golden Age designs of Dick Sprang) with some of the wackiest DC characters: Plastic Man, Guy Gardner/Green Lantern IV, the Silver Age Green Arrow (the Jack Kirby version), and a version of Aquaman that is over the top but FUN. This series was fun from beginning to end and had hardly a cringe-worthy episode... and I can name at least 3 terrible Batman: TAS episodes, too(!), but the Brave and the Bold didn't have a truly terrible episode that I can remember! The classic 1950s/early 1960s art style translates very well to animation and the audio is excellent. In a few cases, you'll hear the defining voices for a bunch of heroes AND villains. When you read the end credits, you'll be surprised by the voice actors for many of these characters. On Blu ray, The Brave and the Bold has higher native resolution but like the DVD sets NO EXTRAS!!!!I can't honestly recommend the hi-def upgrade IF you already have the DVD sets (and I've got every episode on DVD episode Season 2, Part 2). This series had thick line-art animation which generally upscales well (to 1080p; past this most DVDs will probably upscale to pixelated mush) in my past experience with similar shows unless the DVDs are from the stone age of 5-inch video media (1996-200x). Post-2010 DVDs generally upscale well, and B:TB&B is in the post-2010 era. Your call if you choose to upgrade! The "controversial" missing episode Battle of the Superheroes IS on the Season 3 Blu ray set of the Batman: The Brave and the Bold. You're getting all the episodes of The Brave and the Bold on Blu ray should you buy all 3 Blu ray sets.

The Hammers of Justice look better on Blu-Ray
Batman the Brave and the Bold second season is finally on Blu-Ray and it looks better than ever. I've reviewed every collection and nothing has changed, for better and for worse. This is still a gorgeous, colorful, fast, fun, thrill ride of a show that looks even better on Blu-Ray. Unfortunately, this set is bare of any special features, with 'Play All" "Subtitles" and "Episode Select" being the only three options on the title screen. It would be great if the third and final set was loaded with the Bat extra's we've been waiting for, but I wouldn't hold your breath.A few stand out episodes in this set are "Aquaman's Outrageous Adventure!", a distillation of everything that makes this show fun. Over the top heroes, dastardly villains, jokes that come almost as frequently as the action, and all-star team ups. For those "purists" who insist that the only Batman is one that never smiles, I direct you to "Chill of the Night!", an episode so good, that I can place it shoulder to shoulder with the likes of "Heart of Ice", "Robin's Reckoning", and "His Silicone Soul". Rounding out the season is a fantastic episode dealing with the Flash, a take on the Emperor Joker series, and even a look at the Doom Patrol. When all is said and done, this was a fantastic series that managed to stick around longer than anyone anticipated. As such many of these episodes are pure fan service, the likes of which haven't been seen since the fantastic final season of Justice League Unlimited. I'm still surprised we're even getting this great series on Blu-Ray, much less at such a reasonable price. Take advantage of this great deal and send a message to Warner Brothers that you support fun, intelligently written cartoons and maybe they'll start making more of them. Another excellent collection in an excellent series and an unquestionable buy.

Love this!
Glad I found this for my sons! They love Batman movies/TV series, etc. I will buy more marvel, DC, etc. to add to their collection.

An absolutely fun revisit of the silver age and incorporation of the modern heroes
First things first. This is just some really fun stories and brilliant animation that gives a nod back to the '50s through the '70s. All while not treating the viewer (child or adult) like they are stupid.Overall the video and audio is crisp and clear and popping just like one would hope. I'm a bit disappointed in the blu-rays themselves. I was hoping there would be a few commentary tracks or specials. If any of you have followed James Tucker's work, seeing or heard his interviews or listen to commentary tracks on other DC animated things he's produced you know that he and his people can be a fun to listen to. So I was very disappointed in that. The sound was good though a little lower than I would have expected. I had hoped that they might be ambitious and do the 5.1 route as far as audio. But I was not surprised that they did not do so. Again, it does sound good and I suggest turning up the speakers and immersing yourself.

This show has all the stuff that is Batman but never fails to make it fun. Frank Miller's Batman
When this series came out I figured they are making a cartoon for kids. What I did not figure is that it would speak to the kid in me. This show has all the stuff that is Batman but never fails to make it fun. Frank Miller's Batman, Adam West Batman, Kelley Jones Batman and many others make cameos. The episode The Mask of Matches Malone was a bonus feature on Season 3 DVD set.The episode was not framed anamorphic as the other episodes are on the DVD. With this Blu-ray set that episode is now anamorphic like all the others. I hope if they do a season three Blu-ray we get some special features. If not it will be fun to have all these in HD.

An underrated Batman cartoon series
Came a little late, but worth the wait. A lighter Batman cartoon, with the Batmanas a supporting character in his own cartoon, showcases the DC Comics Universe, but safe to get the little ones to watch.

Really great show, in 1080p
This is one of my favorite shows, from back when effort was actually put into them. Highly recommended for any age

Fists of Judgment !
Loved watching this lighter hearted and fun take on the Batman universe. Enjoyed seeing references to the Adam West era in certain episodes. Also enjoyed seeing faves like the Joker but also less shown superheroes and villains. Not the same as Batman the animated series which is more darker but for me none the less enjoyable. There is still a very serious at times batman which is Batman! He is also empowering and we see a fun side at times. Good entertainment. Also love this take on Aquaman and his unlimited level of positivity.
