Great resource for professional and avocational archaeologists.
I am a dedicated SC avocational archaeologist and love this book as a resource to understand and identify artifacts from my part of SC. It is superbly illustrated and contains the wisdom assimilated by Tommy Charles during his decades of studies of SC archaeology and of numerous private collections. His provisional point types fill in gaps present in other sources. The distribution maps for various point and material types are beautiful. I have given this book as a gift to several friends who are interested in SC archaeology.

Great details, photos, timeline, and detailed information! Doesn't get much better than this!
This is an amazing book, one of the best I have for identifying artifacts. It has great detail and wonderful colored photos to help. The history of each specific piece is also amazing. I can now go through my collection I've had for years and actually identify, classify, and catalog my collection. This is indeed one of the best books I own on Native American artifacts, and I own many! I highly recommend this for the avid enthusiast and hunter!

Great for the SE especially, but for any US people interested in the subject'
I had already purchased this book from Amazon for myself. This one is a gift for someone who lives fairly near SC. It is a very good book to be used by those interested in SE archaeology. Good information on relics that can still be found by the average person today.

Types of materials used in manufacture of projectile points
I have long admired Joffre Lanning Coe's "Formative Cultures of the Carolina Piedmont." Tommy Charles and Christopher Moore have created an essential reference book for both professional and avocational devotees, that, in my opinion, ranks with Coe's work. The photography, typological identifications and distribution maps are superior.

Incredible artifact resource
The most comprehensive well written book on prehistoric artifacts in the state. Incredible pictures and descriptions that are readable and presented in hstorical order. The information was gleaned over a long study of 350 private collections across the state. A must have reference for anyone interested in artifacts of the Southeast.

Spectacular!
I’m a S.C. resident and a “newbie” to the world of arrowheads and stone tools. Great Resource with a ton of documented data. Well done!
