This is a must have for anyone who wants neat, tidy, center-pull yarn balls! It took me a few skeins to catch my rhytm and this is what I found helpful to me: First attach the winder to a very sturdy surface and make sure it clamped on well. The second thing you have to do is to pull out the metal arm all the way out. It will keep the yarn coming in on the right position. Before it's ready for use, make sure you find the end of your skein from the middle and start pulling from there. This way the skein won't bounce all over the place while you are winding. If not possible and you have to pull from outside, place the skein in a deep mixing bowl on the floor, so you won't end up with a tangled mess... Start winding slowly the first few rounds and accelerate when you feel comfortable enough. While winding with one hand, use the other one to hold a small tension on the yarn as it feeds in. It keeps the yarn on the spindle and makes tight, nice yarn balls. When finishing, you can fold the outside wrap of the yarn (don't discard it) and push it into the center of the yarn ball as you pull it out. It seems to help keeping its center stable. Get to know your winder's limits and don't overload it with too much yarn or it will get caught up in the gear under the spindle. Overall, I am happy to say that this winder is quick, efficient and really does a great job. I found myself spending the weekend spooling my yarn stash into nice, organized yarn balls!

I love this yarn winder but I discovered I paid 10$ more thru Amazon than it would have cost at Walmart. NOT happy with that. Also, it is almost all plastic so I find myself treating it gingerly. I do like it but wish it was not so plastic and rather cheap feeling.

I bought this yarn ball winder for my mother, she often has bags of yarn, and she absolutely loves it. My kids also enjoy helping her wind all the yarn. Its built very solid and feels like a quality product. I'm glad it gives my kids a chance to interact with their grandma.

It’s cheaply made, the arm that holds the yarn up while winding won’t stay up so you have to hold it up in order to wind the yarn. I cannot recommend this product. There are better ball winders out there.

Very simple machine that does its job. This one was to replace the one I had and lost at some point. In about 40 years they haven’t changed because it just works. One thing to remember with these is they only take about 50g of spun tread or yarn. You can get a bit more if the WPI count is higher, but not much.

 I am very happy with this ball winder! It is very easy to use and winds the yarn into a neat ball in no time. I was surprised how effective it is in turning all my leftover skeins and hanks into super fine cakes of yarn. The setup is also very simple. Just make sure that the metal arm is pulled all the way out and keep a nice gently tension on the yarn while winding. It makes the whole process smoother and creates tight cakes of yarn that don't roll all over the place. I am very excited to finally organize my yarn stash! This is really all that you need.

Essentially the same components and functionality as Knit Picks winder, which I have used.

I used this winder right away. I converted some have used skeins into balls for storing. The winder is set up so that the tops and sides are flat to sit on a shelf or my plans are to put some pegs in a board to hang over the door. The 4 stars are because I had a difficult time finding a lip to attach it to in my craft room. Might have been better if it had a suction type to attach to items without a lip.
