About the 60s (and 70s and 80s)
Did not find the book as interesting as anticipated; actually was relatively boring especially in the first half. The second half was more interesting and I would have found it a better book if written entirely in that vein. Could not really get into the first half, and it read like a source book for an academic course. I believe there may be better/ more interestingbooks on the 60s altho I am not an expert. These authors did live thru those years but that is not especially evident in the first half of the book.

The Self Righteous Left - left exposed
First, I'd much rather learn the history of the 60's from someone who participated in it - in the inner circles - than from any academic. There are some words that the human species finds hard to utter, "I'm sorry," "I don't know" and hardest of all "I was wrong." To write this, David and Peter have to muster up that big one - right at the start - "I was wrong." And that indicates the passion for truth and the kind of introspection that is rare - especially among those who were so thoroughly indoctrinated. The book is concise, historical and revealing. It is a must read for anyone interested in present day politics and how we got here. It shows how the destruction of the structure of our society is not a collateral casualty of the left movement but is the murder of an inept victim too stupid to understand the brutal, robbery, rape and beating it has just taken. This is classic Marxism, to turn the people against each other and accumulate power. None of the ills the left sought to solve has been solved - because it is not about solving anything - its always been about power. In every case, those who Don Quixote portended to help are worse off.No doubt the horrific road we are on is driven by the likes of these wanna be world dictators who propagate all that is vile and evil. They are in the end-game now. And woe to us if they succeed. A MUST READ IF YOUR BRAIN IS NOT BEER SOAKED OR POT STAINED.

The best description of how we landed in the current political mess in the US
Both my wife and I lived through Bezerkley in the 60's and this book stunningly reveals how the plans were laid for the current mess in this country. We knew some of this, but the book filled in many pieces we did not know. Infiltrate the colleges and universities with radical ideas, leading to indoctrinated school teachers and faculty. Destroy the US economy, destroy the nuclear family and increase racial discord!! The plans were all laid out then and have been pursued with amazing efficiency. Bravo to Horowitz and Collier!!

They never thought of the kids they affected
This and others are must-reads for people who had the misfortune to be children during the 60s--- and really, the 70s/80s/90s--- because these people haven't really gone away. The reviews here tell you what you need to know---even to this day, this was all about THEM. They never (even now) consider the confusion of later 70s kids, who just had a sense they were born into a civil war. Flag burnings, scary sex practices, enforced "sex education," films of bulldozed naked bodies to understand the holocaust, and much more. The children born in 1965 are now just over forty. We are just now beginning to see the effects of what these people did to the kids. For anybody just reaching 30-40, take a look at them. At least David Horowitz tried later to go talk to school kids. So many have as first political memories home bombing and people bragging about it and burning flags and teachers pushing dope. Even now, adults will not talk about the REIGN OF TERROR---from their point of view. People still have these people for teachers in school. Now, they talk about it behind closed doors more.

The 1960s are the baby boomers legacy
David Horowitz always nails it. A red diaper baby, and former left wing radical he has the credentials to tell the story of the 1960s with pithy facts. The Boomers gave us three things: 1) Made promiscuous sex commonplace. 2) Made drug abuse socially acceptable and cool. 3) Made crapping on the American flag, and denigrating our country fashionable. Most of today's divisive political climate can be traced back to the left wing radicals of the 1960s. Read this book written by two men who were there and in the mix.

A Slice of the Pie-Not the Whole Story
Not a continuous narrative, but a series of pieces. While I found all of it to be well written, some of the book was extremely entertaining and informative at the same time, while some of it was as one dimensional as a Fox "News" rant.So much has been written about the Civil Rights Movement, the Black Panther Party, SDS, Weatherman, the Black Liberation Army, and other left leaning players of the 60's and 70's. While this book is informative, I would recommend consulting these other sources as well to get a more complete picture of what transpired during this period of our history, and why. As to the author's suggestion that this period be forgotten so we can move the corporate fascist agenda forward unimpeded, I would strongly disagree. If you want an ideology to hang your hat on, this book will take you there.

this is a brilliant book. He will lose many when he starts ...
Yes, agree with the previous reviewer, this is a brilliant book. He will lose many when he starts defending the Vietnam War or the Iran Contra affair or the Gulf wars. But his account of the new left in America is illuminating, devastating, filled with black humour. The thing that rescues him from stereoptypical right thinking is a very human approach to issues. Get it and read it, the sixties, the new left and the Panthers will never look the same again.

A great read. Slip into the ughly side of the Revolutionary Idea.
Over the last few years, I started to question the many books and documentaries that I consumed about the revolutionary 1960s. I was once taken with the Revolutionary Idea and wondered why the magic did not last and result in the utopia it promised. After further research, I decided to purchase and read this book. After reading each chapter, I started to research the internet to defy the details I just read. I was shocked by how I was lied to all these years by reputable sources presenting false and twisted storytelling. People, who I once respected, were actually opportunists and hustlers who distributed "their truth" to further their own personal interests and agendas.I am glad I read this book. I got to see the ugly side of the Revolutionary Idea.Sounds harsh? The facts and the truth hurts.I highly recommend this book.I loved it so much that I bought another title in the authors' repertoire, "The Anti Chomsky Reader".
