New and Improved Radio Plug!
I purchased one of these programming cables almost exactly 2 years ago from BlueMax49ers. As many other reviewers have commented, the fragile radio plug was pretty shoddy. If you plug & unplug it from your radio a moderate number of times, the delicate sleeve surrounding the radio plug becomes loose from wear & tear, and eventually falls apart or becomes unreliable. Mine became unreliable shortly before I had to program my radio for an upcoming event. Since I was operating under a time constraint, I ordered the same cable, because I knew it would work at least for a little while, even though it may not hold together for very long.I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED when my new cable arrived today, and it had a new radio plug design. The plastic boot around the plug is rock-solid and feels fully integrated with the plug. Also, the metal shield surrounding the mini-DIN radio plug protrudes a little further, so it makes a snug fit into the radio now. I'm very pleased.I'm not sure if I should thank Mark or his Chinese supplier for the design change, but whoever is responsible for the change, you rock!

Came apart on first use
This cable works but the first time I pulled it out of the radio, the boot pulled off of the plug and the plug fell apart into numerous pieces. Luckily I was somewhere that it was easy to recover all of the parts and put it back together. If I pull the plug out of the radio by the wire, it doesn't come apart, but obviously the boot at the end is where you are supposed to grab it. Can't tell if it's hand made, but the plug at the end is not going to be what you were expecting for $28. I have FTDI cables like this for other radios that are much higher quality and cost under $10.

Good idea that fails miserably
I am very disappointed in this unit. The end where it connects to the radio is lousy. The rubber cover extends too far and keeps it from seating properly. Trying to jam it in place and then being forced to hold it is a no go. MY radio is mounted very solidly under the package tray and removing it is not something I wanted to do - thus I got this cable. I'll likely add a different end myself or just buy something else. I did not return it because I waited way too long before I even tried it - my fault.

Works great. i keep it connected to the TMV71A all the time and tucked between my seat and the center console. and if i want to make changes i just pull the end out and im ready to go.

USB so no 9-PIN adapters needed.
Ultra fast shipping, ordered Fri PM, arrived USPS on Monday! USB cable works great on my Kenwood TM-V71a. No adapters needed, just set your COM port in Windows (10) and it works with MCP-2A and CHIRP.

Does not fit the TM-V71A radio
The mini din connector does not fit into my brand new V71A Kenwood radio. I had to use an x-acto knife to trim the outer cover to make it fit. Now the cover slides off when I remove the plug. Not good.
