its nice . well explained and also have some recipe pics. but the recipes are of daily normal dish , nothing for any special days.

Wonderful book.Gives a history of the food and the place.Since I also belong to the environs of the book i could identify with the locale and the foods.She captures the innocence of the eighties and early nineties which the present generation will find it difficult to visualize.She has a flair for words and her recipes are wonderful.In all a book worth buying.Its not just a book of recipes or a cookbook but a foodbook.

This is a very confused book. Seems a really shoddy patchwork of cooking, with large unwarranted fillers

I am loving this book. I have been to India and loved the part about the Admiral's wife. It gives a view to what it is like to grow up middle class India. I really liked the preface and the sense of history. It makes one realize what an old, old culture India is. I am not that fond of Indian cooking (mostly too spicy hot for me). But, I found the rescipes interesting and learned a lot about their food.

What a wonderful heritage Tara has - with the talent to share it in writing. If you love history, there's plenty to read here about this exotic area. If you love to eat and to cook wonderful food, just enjoy that, here in abundance. The food is delicious.

Tara Deshpande Tennebaum is an engaging writer who has crafted a must-read book for anyone fascinated by India's culture and food. I can't recommend it highly enough! Her recipes are accessible to a broad audience and delicious.

What a treasure this book has been. The stories are fascinating and the recipes delightful. Tara is a gem. Who knew that Indian cooking could be so fun.

Not only is there a most interesting history and explanation of this particular cuisine (Konkan), but there are also great stories and recipes...and an extensive glossary of Konkan cooking terms in addition. It is a wonderful journey!
