An unusual toy for an unusual dog
I have a yorkshire terrier who is obsessed with this squirrel. He was given the stump as a birthday present, and even though it is not possible for him to pull the squirrel out on his own, he is thrilled when someone helps him get it out. He loves the clunky, odd-shaped squeaky toy. This toy was probably meant for midsized dogs, as a dog his size has difficulty reaching the squirrel through the hole. This does not prevent him from trying though, and he's begun chewing to make the holes wider when I put the squirrel back inside the stump. While this may not be ideal for some owners, to me this is a good thing. I'm trying to encourage him to chew more to help with keeping his teeth clean, so anything that encourages that behavior for him is a plus for me. If he destroys the stump, I'll consider it worth the investment to get him actively chewing for so long.I was glad I purchased this item even though it had very mixed reviews. The material the stump is made out of is not very strong and would not last with a dog that is very big or a real chewer. As with any toy I would not recommend leaving your dog unattended with it to prevent their play from becoming too aggressive and eating pieces of the stump.

It's oookay...
My jack russell doesn't have as much fun with it as her other toys, probably because she doesn't care about the toy squirrel. I put treats in it sometimes, with the squirrel toy to make it harder for her to get at the treats, and she'll pay attention to it for long enough to get the treats out (which is fairly quick, actually). She doesn't like the squirrel because it's made of some kind of hard(er) plastic, and hard to squeeze.I would recommend to friends considering this to just get the plush log with the stuffed squirrels instead, as that is what I had considered before I went with this...And I went with this because I was afraid that my jack russell would tear apart the plush/stuffed version too easily. Which she might, but since she won't even give this so much as a sniff without the treats in it, it's hard to make that comparison. It would be a good toy for you and your dog if your dog is the OMFG SQUEEEEEEKKKYYYY TOOOOYYYYYY kind of dog.

Fun toy but not for heavy chewers
My dog loved this for the few days but then it started tearing. He is a 70lb labradoodle and heavy chewer so I'm not surprised. This toy would be excellent for a smart dog that is not heavy chewer. The squirrel inside is extremely durable and a fun toy on its own as well. One big plus was that the log piece is slightly stretchy so we could fit a variety of toys in it.

Sorry but my Basenji chewed this up in 5 minutes!
I was so proud that he had figured out how to get the squirrel out of this container until I saw the container. Honestly the first time I thought he couldn't get through it so I didn't supervise him the second time I gave it too him but for only 5 minutes?. Basenjis have very strong jaws. The squirrel is still intact but I watch him closely now. The container is now out in the fish pond for the fish to swim through so not a total loss :-)

Good puzzles, squeaky squirrel
The squirrel squeaks! We bought hoping it did not. Training our dog to hunt, in order to keep the mouth soft, no squeakers allowed! We have modified and are stuffing other toys into the "log". Gives her something to do for awhile- nice!

Log tore quickly
I got this for a younger dog who likes to chew on things. Initially, she had a lot of fun trying to get the squirrel out of the log. But because the log is made out of really flexible rubber, she was able to tear it up pretty easily so it went in the trash relatively quickly. Still have the squirrel, but won't ever buy this item again.
