The Sonny Stitt Collection: Saxophone Artist Transcriptions
D**Y
Walking in Sonny's Giant Footprints
If you would like to walk in the footprints in the path of one of the greatest saxophonist that ever lived. Capture and some of his most brilliant solos then play them out loud yourself in your style. Then begin the journey by playing these wonderful transcriptions. Sonny Stitt was and is the starting point for playing Be-Bop and Jazz improvisation. This valuable collection of transcriptions can serve as your personal microscope into a genius at playing the saxophone. Or more accurately improvising on any instrument. No transcription can accurate capture the momentum of Sonny’s crisps articulations and rhythms. Phrase after phrase his energy burst through to the listener. It is near impossible to accurately notate inspiration. Much less in meter. This collection is as close as it gets to capturing Sonny’s genius in a bottle by way of this book. As a saxophonist myself, Sonny is my rhythm muse. Play these solos a few times and he will be your muse as well. To use this study effectively don’t play like Sonny. Play what Sonny played in the past but play as yourself. Temporary limitations and all. Play these transcriptions with your sound, your rhythm, your style. All of a sudden one you’ll be rewarded with the discovery of your own way of expressing all the numerous permeations of your own unique rhythmically articulated phrases. You’ll be rewarded with an entirely new path created by you as you leave your own footprints of improvisational success.

Some Outstanding Tenor Sax Solos
I like that this book of Stitt tenor sax solos because it shows how Stitt weaves very melodically through the chord changes. It shows his Be-Bop style which is what I like about his playing.

Mostly Post Bop
Of course not all solos are playable for everybody. But this is the first time I believe Hal Leonard has published the Be-Bop era classic Ray's Idea which Sonny played on Alto in the early 1970's on his Constellation album. Sonny plays the melody very straight without runs. If you want it in a choice of keys get the Jamey Aebersold - Be Bop and Beyond booklet 4 keys per tune, including Bass Clef for trombone.Walter Davis Jr has played it as a piano feature for 2 different groups.

貴重なんだが
私にとってはかなりの貴重品なんですが、なんせ彼のトランススクリプションなんで、とにかく難い。ただ、原曲はYoutubeなどで比較的見つけやすいです。
