NOT A TALK BOX BUT FUN FOR A BASS
I bought this for my bass and there is a definite learning curve but it is fun to learn with. You WILL NOT get the full effect of a true Talk Box but very close with some experimenting. Don't expect to be able to hammer out on your B string, but if you stay up close to 2nd octave you will find a combination that works. Seems to be well built and easy to hook up and use.

Limited but affordable
It has been useful in my familiarizing myself with the vocoder style. However ,in the near future, I will be getting a more versatile pedal.

A rare gem of low maintenance, cost effective...uh, effects
I like this pedal, because it doesn't have a bunch of confusing knobs, cost a ton of money, and fits my requirement of "must be boss/maxon pedal size or smaller". I hate bulky pedals, and Electro-Harmonix is a bulkiness culprit, but not here, thankfully. Its actually a tad smaller than an old mxr distortion+, and more than likely you will use the switch more often than the knobs, which is what I wanted. While it doesn't sound like the album version of King Crimson's "The Power to Believe" should you play/sing it, it does sound like the live version. The issue you will have is how to use it. You may have to have a really clean amp perhaps digital, or plug it into a PA or run it direct to what ever. For distortion, not sure if should go before or after a distortion or overdrive, or work better with a amp sim. I suspect the former. People have gotten this thing to make dreamy talk box sounds. So its kind of a Talk Box/Vocoder in one, and more for the guitarist anyway, though keyboardists may dig this too.I like user friendly, low cost sonic gizmos, so I give it 5 stars though I'm still in the learning curve.I received it quickly and in time for a recording session.

Truly my new toy!
Having a great time with it. I've always wanted one since the Teddy Riley days and now... It's the 90s all over again.

excellent addition to the creative guitarists arsenal
Small the Iron Lung may be, but it performs perfectly. It is a straightforward, easy to use pedal that performs it's functions well. At the time I bought this, I had considered buying one of the more complex vocoder pedals from Electro-Harmonix and in time, maybe I will. For now, this is perfect for a pedal that has a naturally limited use potential.I found that the settings were best with both dials at the 12 O'clock position and, as suggested on one of the video demonstrations I watched, the addition of distortion before the vocoder makes a big difference to the effected vocal and adds a greater range of control.

Sounds Cool!
It does what it claims. Singing actual notes is not required while using it, just speak the words while playing the corresponding chords. You can hear what it sounds like on a cover of "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk. If you paste the following address at the end of soundcloud web address. Scrub the timeline to 2:38 where the effect is used./nine-o-six/get-lucky-covered-by-906-live/s-zqdjn

Good for the price
Don't expect this to work like a classic vocoder, or expect it to be able to auto-tune your voice. But it will defo give your voice an interesting treatment. I've used it with both guitar and keyboard, and I probably prefer it with the keyboard. You get a decent amount of variations with the two knobs - tho I can't agree with the manufacturer claim that it has 100 tones. I've used this on two tracks of what will be my debut album and will definitely use it again.

Iron Lung exceeds expectations
I’ve been using a vocoder plugin from Sonivox, but Logic Pro now states it’s not a valid plugin so even after reinstalling it, I can’t use it. Bitwig Studio says likewise, so I thought I’d bite the bullet and actually get one. The EH Iron Lung works a treat and exceeds my expectations, especially the gender-bender control, and I hope to get a lot of use out of it. The pedal is built to last but pricey if you’re only gonna use it a few times.

Worth a Squirt
Good, fairly robust pedal. I have had some problems with input signal calibration- a bit of your carrier signal often leaks through the filter-bank even when you put nothing through the mic input. This will not be audible over a loud rock band, but will in a quieter setting. Surprisingly, I have not found it a massive problem as it is easy to work around, but it does exist. In terms of where to put this in your signal chain- you have as many options as you have pedals. Putting the Vocoder AFTER your distortion will give you a good wide frequency bed to modulate, and provide more clarity to whatever sound you put into the mic input. Putting this BEFORE your distortion and singing nonsensical vowels into the mic input will allow a confident guitarist a really neat expansion on some classic hendrix-influenced wah-wah soloing (imagine if the "wah" could do more different vowels than just "wah"). I would definitely make sure it is before things like reverb, delay et, unless you are a true experimentalist.Speaking of which, do not feel like the "mic" input is limited to just being a human voice. Try putting a mic on your drummers snare whilst you play long, held distorted or reverberated chords into the input. Try plugging your guitar into both mic and instrument inputs just for a nice retro filter-bank sound. Try using a white-noise generator (radio?) as your INSTRUMENT input and find a way of getting the guitar into your mic input. Found some seriously cool sounds this way. The world is your oyster.Peace out homies.

worth every penny
Brilliant vocoder pedal, it works better with true analog synth as carrier as opposed to digital or analog modelling, it still works well with the later, just not as thick or warm. I use a korg polysix as the carrier, and it sounds amazing. Very easy to use, and the gender bender control is a novel touch.
