book is great-but it's impossible to source materials used
the book itself is fabulous, as other reviewers have stated. BUT, after using the links in the book, and google searches, and calls and emails to the companies listed as making the necessary supplies, it seems that the paper and printing mediums needed to carry out the methods described are currently unobtainable. frustrating! without them, the instructions are pretty much useless : (

Helpful book
Great information easy to follow. I’ve been wanting to transfer photos on some of my ceramic work for a while now. Great to have a guide like this.

General Ceramic Transfer Printing 101
The resource is very limited in its application to specific needs of firing. If all you need or want is a general overview of these ceramic applications this is the book for you. It makes assumptions that requires one to make assumptions. These assumptions require one to have to make trial tests that do not work. As a ceramic teacher I have always found it necessary to have a what if section to technical education. What if the tile comes out with a scab on it where the image shoud be? What if there is just dust where the image should be? etc...

Ceramic Transfer Printing by Kevin Petrie
Love this book! I've been looking for a book that would give me just the right steps to begin applying image transfers to my ceramic pieces. This one works for me.

Decals and more
I can not remember how I learnt about this book but I am glad that I did and I am glad that I bought it.A lot of the other books I looked into whilst trying to learn more about decals were written a while ago and from what I could see they did not reflect the options open to hobbyist potter today. This book covers the current options available, and it provides insights that help with producing a decal and applying it.The author clearly writes from an academic background and perspective, but don't let this put you off. Kevin Petrie demonstrates a wealth of knowledge and experience that he shares in this book. The book delves into the very technical detailing different types of decal production methods and history. The photographs of peoples work he includes demonstrate well the subjects he describes and they are also inspirational. All in all this book has something for everyone. If your looking for a technical book its here. If you are looking for ideas and inspiration its here. The amount of knowledge Kevin makes available here is amazing and well worth the money.

Not for the hobbyist or beginner...
I enjoyed reading this book and I did find it inspiring. The author is clearly very qualified in his field and writes from an academic perspective. There are some lovely examples of other people's projects who work in the industry and it gives an insight into the world of ceramics and printing methods. What it doesn't go into is basic practical tips for beginners, I think it was a little too advanced for my needs. It's great for those who have access to studios and equipment and have good foundation in ceramic printing, but not for the hobbyist like myself.

good overview/academic text
probably adequate as a diploma research text but not a how to by any means. Disappointing as it inspires you to have a go without giving you the capabilities. Refers to another book, but i didn't find that one any good either. :-(
