This book is a great resource for parents who want to educate themselves in the process of educating their daughters, for parents who are shy about talking about these topics and want reliable information for their daughters, and for other health professionals who educate teens. It's written by an actual MD in ob/gyn practice, with daughters, who has additional specialty training and professional experience in matters of STDs and sexual health. You can't have better credentials that that. It's written in straightforward language, has helpful illustrations, is inclusive of different view points and appropriately respects the parental role in decision making.

Perfect for pre teen/ teenage girls!
Every parent MUST talk to their daughters about sex and all that goes with it. Sometimes embarrassing, yes but necessary. So after telling them all of this, give them the book! Teens often feel more comfortable alone reading a book. Includes pictures too. Very real and factual.

" If you are a mother like me, or aunt
The statistics are real and eye-opening ........"30% of US teenagers have had sex by age sixteen, most young people have sex for the first time at age seventeen, twenty million people get an STD every year and most of these are young people between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four."If you are a mother like me, or aunt, or grandmother or any other adult playing a role in the life of growing children, you are probably really paying attention. For me, the take home message is that children are discussing sexuality very early in their teens. You wonder about the accuracy of whatever information they circulate among themselves. You wish we had a chance, the responsible adults in their lives, to make sure they have all the facts and know the truth. It was very refreshing for me to encounter this book by Dr. Fatu Forna, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist, and also mom to 3 daughters and 1 son. In her 5-chapter book, she reviews what every child should know as they approach puberty, about their changing body, sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy and contraception, and seeing their gynecologist. She uses real life images to illustrate the genital organs in healthy and diseased states. She uses a Q & A style to describe topics. In each section, she adds a highlight, "From Your Doctor To You," which is the take home message that the reader can grasp even if just looking in a hurry. The strength of this book is that it gives so much detail without becoming just another text book. The writing is engaging and provokes discussion, so much so that a young teenager could review with a parent. I certainly plan to keep this book in my family library and will refer to it, to educate the young people in my life as they grow older. I highly encourage you to take a look also.
