Thee Temple of Phallacious Youth
"We had been constructing TOPY initially "to see what happens" when demystified occult and shamanic practices are released non-hierarchically into popular culture." -- Genesis P-Orridge, "The Process is the Product"The publication of THEE PSYCHICK BIBLE: Thee Apocryphal Scriptures ov Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Thee Third Mind ov Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth finally gives the opportunity, after all these years, to read Genesis Breyer P-Orridge's attempts to produce "the most profound new manual on practical magick, taking it from its Crowleyan empowerment of the Individual to a next level of realization to evolve our species."It's all surprisingly traditional, after all [albeit definitely of the "left hand" path, what with section on the mystical significance of facial money-shots], leading me to ask what all the fuss was about. The answer, I think, can be found in a neat little antimony I recently saw on a New or Alternate Right blog [if anyone recognizes, or is, the author, by all means let me in on it]:Liberals think that the average run of folks is just fine, and any mediocrity or evil is the result of bad social structures, which can be addressed.Conservatives think that the average guy is a pretty sorry lot, and the only good you can expect to get out of them requires the guidance of a more or less stern social system, with more or less freedom, social or mystical, wisely doled out to those showing proper qualifications. It's clear from P-Orridge's statement just quoted, about "empowerment of the Individual to a next level of realization to evolve our species," as well as the reverent name-checking of Wilhelm Reich among his inspirations, that Gen falls squarely into the first alternative, occult division, along with a parade of mystical goofballs from the stern and dignified Steiner through the Irish tricksters Leary and MacKenna to the outright buffoonery of P-Orridge.How much longer, how many more times, are we to be told that "humanity has advanced" beyond the need of mystical qualifications, or rather would be advancing if only all the social "shackles," Our Freud's "thin veneer of civilization," were thrown off?You don't even need to be a crusty old Traditionalist to get it: see, as we have blogged frequently, the disdain of public school educated Alan Watts himself for dirty, let-it-all-hang-out hippies.Which is not to say this isn't an impressive work of occult, or "magickal" if one insists, teachings and technique. As for Gen him/herself, it might be said that the tragi-comic parade of stunts and accidents that has made up his career since illustrates Evola's observation in The Hermetic Tradition: Symbols and Teachings of the Royal Art that the true mage not only shuns and sneers at fame and fortune [although Gen is proud to claim "crucial influence on youth culture throughout the 1980s, popularizing tattooing, body piercing, "acid house" raves, and other ahead-of-the-curve cultic flirtations and investigations"] but, due to psychic retribution from work in other realms, may even be singularly unlucky in this one.As for the book itself, it's very well made, self-jacketed paperback, although I could do without the glossy, coated paper, which is really only suitable for illustrations; however, I realize that many people think it makes a book "special" so, whatever.

Hard to read due to terrible formatting
Font is pretty small, but the worst choice I've ever seen is how the designer gave us wide margins on the outside of the pages but the gutters are practically nonexistent, which means the text from the very beginning of the book is hard to read since it is disappearing into the spine of the book. Right from the beginning, this is a problem, but gets increasingly worse as you get to the center of the book.Obviously the choice to make the outer margin bigger than usual was intentional, but likely the tiny gutter margin was a huge error in judgement that only became obvious when it was too late in the printing process to fix. If it was all 100% intentional, then it was a bad choice. My rating only reflects the general appearance of the book and effort made since I haven't been able to read much of it due to this problem. It would require a very well lit room and some kind of table which I could press the book down hard to read the text that is hiding in the gutters. What a disaster.Like the Portugese reviewer here said: "...the layout is unfortunate." I've duplicated his picture here so I don't have to bother taking a photo that shows the exact same problem he already displayed in his picture.

The P-Orridge book that shook up my life and planted the seeds of that change was Painful but Fabulous
I'd say this book changed my life, but it was already changed by the time I read it. The P-Orridge book that shook up my life and planted the seeds of that change was Painful but Fabulous, which I now see is largely unavailable unless you want to pay a million dollars for it. I'm glad I got mine when I did for 24.95.Anyway, Thee Psychick Bible is a good—and cheaper—substitute, albeit without the great pictures.I've come to many of the same conclusions about life, art, magic, gender, control, freedom, etc that are found in these essays. It serves me as a kind of anthology of my own thoughts on these subjects. I thumb through it now & then to remind me of what I believe. It's one of those books I wish I'd read a hundred years before I did. It would have saved me from a world of hurt, much of it self-imposed.Anonymous. Really stands out as a "Beach Read"....
ON DELIVERY: With all the craziness going on at the moment (that's turning into an extremely long moment) you're lucky to get an order within the same month...BUT my book was sent out quickly & I received it just as so.ON THE BOOK: after Genesis' passing his/her published works are expectedly racking up hefty price tags. I've found that the price paid here for this volume has been more than fair. It's a beautifully heavy book & will keep you occupied for oodles if you're trapped indoors this summer.

A historical collection
In this book you'll find a collection of TOPY essays including the Grey Book and other materials not previously published publicly, as well several previously published essays that are fascinating in terms of the biographical information provided, and also a one-sided perspective on Genesis and TOPY's falling out. I enjoyed reading this book a lot, and found the various texts to be informative and useful as it applies to my own magical work, especially as applied to the cut-up methodology and its application to magical work. It was also fascinating to learn more about the history of TOPY, albeit through a filtered perspective. I also enjoyed the essays on pandrogeny. I consider this a historical text that any magician, particularly those in chaos magic, might want to pick up. It demonstrates as well some of the issues that can arise in any magical organization.

Such a fantastic read. Highly reccomend.
Incredible read indeed, which is very thought provoking and practical. I grew up in the 80's and became enamoured with TOPY and its philosophy, which is super relevant in todays world. Crowley knew back then how society would evolve. This book explains it quite efficiently & in practical ways.chEErs, 93

Anyone wanting to explore the cutting edge of post-post-modernist/humanist/genderist magic should seriously consider purchasing this tome. The temple served its purpose and dissolved into the footnotes of history. Its purpose: to remove the mystical veil of self importance surrounding occultism and make it exoteric for the masses. Industrial culture, rave culture, and beyond were born from this process. In its pages you will find a complete manual in cutting up your own personality to make room for the light of truth to shine into the dark spaces created by your habit and the habits of your culture. become an iconoclast with a system that is no system; a process that destroys processes; a grimoire that rearranges the letters of the Spell that weaves the illusion of collective 'reality' until the universe be-cums a mirror to the genius of the practitioner. Magic is what you can get away with.
