Disappointing ending
I read very quickly and clearly miss details while doing so. That said, the plot was moving along at a great pace with Scorpian getting into and out of situations that seem to happen to all spies in novels of this sort. By the final 30 or 40 pages I thought I knew where things were going only to have an incredibly confusing ending. I'm not sure exactly what happened but it seemed to fall apart. This book would make a great movie...maybe then I might better understand how things unfolded.

A fast read
There are a lot of characters in the book which at times can be difficult to keep track of who's who, but the suspense and action are worth it. There are twists and turns everywhere. There is a love interest as well but this is not a romance story. It's a good read while on the stairmaster at the gym.

Good Action and Plot
This story has many of the great features of this genre, action, complex plot and twists and turns. If you have not previous books in the Scorpion series you are at slight disadvantage because there are referrals back to early books. Overall, a good experience and well worth the read.

A Tale of Fiction?
I suppose most readers would class this story as a work of fiction. In literary circles they would be correct. But, in our real world this plot is not so outlandish. America has many enemies, and they dislike us for a variety of reasons. I liked this book not just for the plot, but i can picture an agent acting in the manner our storys primary character. He shows strenghts and weaknesses, he is caring and cold, in my opinion he shows his humanity. He carries out his mission, although he is clearly conflicted about it. I don't agree that he would not have killed his adversary, when he was presented with that opportunity. I would recommend this author to others, for his plots and for his central character. JRV

Good Read
This was the first book I have read by Andrew Kaplan. I enjoyed it. It kept me turning the pages, and it also led me to purchase his next book, "Scorpion Winter". I liked the depictions of international locations. It made me feel like the author had actually been there and he probably has . . . as have I. One complaint and question: how did the protagonist get his handgun and ammo through security at the train stations and airports?! In summary, I would have liked to have seen more character development, and I didn't think too highly of the ending. The build up was exciting, but the climax was mundane.

Non-stop action.
I loved this book! It starts off with a bang and the action never stops as the protagonist travels throughout the Middle East and Europe in pursuit of his prey. You are caught up in a world where nothing is as it seems (or is it?). Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? It sometimes is hard to tell, and that makes the story even more interesting. The ending is a surprise and yet makes total sense. This book literally kept me up at night. I could not put it down. I look forward to more books by this author.

No foreign language research done
This book has all the right ingredients for a great thriller and I probably agree with most all of the favorable reviews that rave about how suspenseful it is, etc. No complaints here. But oh, the editing! This is an intelligently and rather well researched thriller, so why on earth did the author and/or the editor not spend the time and money to properly research the foreign language bits the book is interspersed with? The German for one is completely abysmal - wrong capitalization (or random, or none), wrong grammar, wrong sentence structure, wrong almost-everything. These foreign language sentences are clearly used to give the book credibility, make it more realistic, give the impression that the author went to great lengths to research his topic. But they are so, so bad that they must have come straight out of automated Google translations. Anyone who allows a book to go to publishing that translates 'exchange mail server' to 'Austauschcomputerbediener' and who believes that the sentence 'Tun sie mögen Dallmayr kaffee' sounds like proper German needs to rethink their approach.Regrettably this has irritated me so much that I cannot give this more than 2 stars.Quick follow-up: I entered the phrases I mentioned into Google and actually their translations are way better than Kaplan's...

BRILLIANT!
I have been waiting 3 decades for Scorpion's continuation. Totally blown away and totally worth the wait. Kaplan is a master of the pen and keeps you on your seat's edge from the very first page. You may want to reconsider reading this book on a cross country flight with headphones on as numerous accidental outbursts occurred with each passing page. The read is dynamic, fast and suspenseful. You will not be disappointed.

Not bad spy thriller
The second in the series to feature “The Scorpion”, a free-lance Black Ops agent who works for US Intelligence. This is, although not without flaws, a fast moving thriller. Scorpion is tasked with eliminating a radical that has plans for a “big one” before the bad guy gets to hit his target(s). Seen this many times, but it is well delivered, with pace and excitement as the chase goes from country to country. Scorpion has an Arabic upbringing so he can fit comfortably in Western and Eastern environments and this does give something different and interesting to the character. As this mission develops, Scorpion starts to realise he does not have the whole picture and there may be more at stake than he can possibly imagine. The flaws? The author struggles a bit with dialogue with female characters, what is supposed to be sexually charged just feels lame. And some odd bits, we have Scorpion’s US contact in a foreign country being protected by the SAS for no reason. And in Italy we have US snipers protecting a major target, not something the Italians would contemplate! But for its flaws, when the action gets going and the tradecraft is on display, this is entertaining stuff.

A scorpion with a little sting in its tail.
I read "Homeland" and enjoyed it,so I thought I would give his Scorpion books a read.It started well, the story holding together. It then started to get a bit deep and confusing. As the book progressed the tale rose and fell and at one point became very dull. The story ended but still had 60+ pages to read.He should have ended it then.It seemed to wander on trying to end.Overall an ok read but about 100 pages too long.I don't think I will read the next book for a while.Sorry Andrew....

Not as good as the Homeland books but still a very good ...
Very fast moving thriller again very well written with Andrew Kaplans attention to detail. Not as good as the Homeland books but still a very good read. Perhaps I should have read this first before the Homeland series

Overplayed
Too much foreign language that has to be translated. Slightly too complicated plot. Too much detail with holds in hand to hand fights.
