Excellent product
This is a very useful product if you ever want to use a US electrical appliance in Europe or in Asia which are usually on 240V (or vice versa). It is slightly heavy but I guess you can't make it any lighter because of the transformer. One thing to remember is that the voltage selector switch displays the INPUT voltage and NOT the output voltage. So you would set the switch to 110V if your power supply is 110V and NOT if you want to connect an appliance that runs on 110V. Setting the switch to 110V will give you 240V at the converter output. Be very careful with this or you might end up frying your appliance and/or burning out the fuse in your electrical supply. You set the switch to 240V if your INPUT voltage is 240V and not if you want to run an appliance that works on 240V. Setting the switch to 240V will give you 110V at the converter output. This combination is not as dangerous because an appliance that expects 240V just wouldn't work if you connected it to a supply with a lower voltage. Finally, be careful NOT to connect any appliance that requires more than 60-70W of power or you run the risk of burning out the transformer inside the converter.

Flawless Operation
Step Up/Down transformers are tricky devices. It's not hard to see why so many users gave negative reviews. But in order to use a converter without any problems, you need to be mindful of 2 things:1) The required current (in terms of ampere rating) of the device that you are powering.2) Whether the device is motorized. If you are using a transformer/converter such as this one for a battery charger or cell phone charger, then you shouldn't run into any overheating or shutdown issues. But if you are using it for a hairdryer or another device with heavy moving parts (like an old tape recorder that uses 3 motors), then you need to pay special attention to #1 and ensure that the wattage rating of the transformer/converter is actually 20 to 30 watts greater than the motorized device's rated power consumption. These are the precautions I took and it worked perfectly for me.

It does the job and it's compact
It was a good acquisition. I have a 13 V small device from Europe (220 V) that I wanted to use in USA (110 V) so I needed a power converter. It's compact and it's working fine. I was just surprised that the box came without any informative paper. I had to read Internet reviews to confirm that the transformer voltage is the local input and note the device voltage. In my case, I had to select AC 110 V to convert my 220 V device. Another point is that the multi connector is a little bit loose but it does the job.

OK for my needs
This converter is fine if you need to convert any UK 220/240V low powered devices on the US power system of 110v.I power mainly chargers of low powered devices with this, such as my Panasonic Lumix battery charger, I also recharge my MicroAvionics pilots headset etc. These devices are not to be used to power Hairdryers, Computers, or anything that draws more than 100 Watts. So yes it worked out of the box, it is fairly heavy but that is a good sign for a step up/down converter.Andrew McJannett-Smith

Works so far
I bought this to work with my 240V WAHL shaver that I bought in South Africa. So far it seems to be fine. I give 4 stars because there is no clear instruction manual. If you are in a country that supplies 110V you have to make sure the switch is set to 110. The output will be stepped up to 240V. If you are in a country that supplies 240V make sure you set the switch to 240V before you connect it to power. It should be stepped down to 110V.

Pros: works great. Cons: really heavy.
+This voltage converter works perfectly. I can use my electric devices from Spain in the US.-It's ridiculously heavy, so I plug it to an extension cord and place it on the floor.?Remember that this works for 110-120V max. and it's good to allow some margin there. I recommend to use it with devices up to 100V.Not sure how it responds if plugged for long times; I only use when I need it and for half an hour aprox.

Good converter
Once you figure out how the little lever in the back works, everything is fine. Luckily the electronic appliance I had to plug in is originally 220V, if not I would probably have fried it. i would recommend to put some kind of instructions in the package. For the rest, good built quality and it works very well.

Did not convert 110 to 240 for a heating pad.
When visiting London, I plugged my wife's heating pad into a converter and fried the heating pad controls. Turns out the hotel provided converter was just a plug converter, not a voltage converter. So, we bought a new heating pad, 240 volts thinking upon return to the States I would buy a 110/240 converter to convert 110 volts to 240 and use my European pad.Ordered a voltage converter, received it in two days. Fine. However, would provide converted power to the heating pad controls, but did not warm up the pad.I obviously don't know what I am talking about, and the device did not do what I wanted it to do.Hence the device is non functional for my use.
