Great for learning Ohio trees
The pictures in the book helped me quickly become familiar with trees in my area so that I a able to name them when I see them.

Descent field ID and it fits in your back pocket!
I have almost broke the entire spine from use, and this is definitely one of the best small pocket field ID guides I've ever had for Ohio flora. While there are definitely problems with it (lack of details, diversity of species) it is one I would recommend any serious outdoor person check out. I always keep it in my hiking pack along with the Woods Plants and Shrubs of SE Ohio and Lucy Braun's Ohio plant book.Whenever I do timber sale monitoring or nature studies it is a helpful guide and will withstand some pretty heavy use/wear/tear and still work. The glossy images are a real treat (but not enviro friendly :( Compared to crummy line drawings from 1950-70 in a lot of outdoor books, this is a nice change. Also, it is a good non-specialist book for general outdoor enthusiasts. You don't need a PhD in plant ecology or forestry to get useful uinfo fast. It also has an interesting page categorization scheme by tree shape.

Great book.
Great book. I have always wanted to be able to identify trees, but have always been intimidated. This book breaks it down into simple components to be able to quickly narrow a tree down. Even if you don't know EXACTLY what it is, you should be able to say "that is some sort of maple" (as an example). But if you have the book with you, you can identify exactly what sort of maple it is. I recommend this book for anyone interested in identifying trees. There is a checklist in the back so you can make kind of a game out of finding different trees.

Pretty good
Just small enough to fit inside a pocket. Easy to flip through. Seems a little outdated since no mention of emerald ash borer; talks about the ash trees are still plentiful. Hard to see the photos of bark.Shipping note:The back cover of the book was completely bent when it arrived. It must have been pressed into a corner by the weight of the other books in the box. I ended up keeping it and unbending the crease.

Good book overall
I wanted a book to help me identify the trees on my property as I was never in the Boy Scouts where you learn all that stuff. It was a pretty good read, although I got it for Christmas and there were no leaves on the trees. I was hoping that it would have better pictures of the bark to help in identifying species when no leaves are on. The bark pictures offered are pretty small and non-representative. The leaf pictures, however, are preety good and I'm sure it will be of use during the summer.

Invaluable Resource
I originally borrowed this field guide from the library but we kept renewing it and I quickly realized it was good enough to own. My 5 year old and I have learned so much about the trees in our neighborhood.

It is a great pocket reference
It is a great pocket reference . It goes to the woods with every trip . Well put together, but the pictures of the bark needs more detail or should be larger to help identify
