Gatemate5251503 E/BLAC P36 Ring Gate Latches, Epoxy Black, 150 mm

The gate latch delivered was not as per the picture. It is more flimsy than than the discription, and of a less robust design than the picture indicates. Eg the ring latches are held on with small circlips which aren’t that sturdy, I’d have expected it to be pressed on. In addition, the stay and keep are very flimsy, (<1mm steel) the keep back plate was already distorted in the packaging. The delivered product is identical to product 27158 from Tool Station which retails at £3.75. I’ve returned it, at my cost, seller did not refund my postage, due to product not meeting my expectations or matching description. I can’t be certain, but I think this is a poor imitation of the Gatemate branded products, and probably shouldn’t be described as such.

Overall seems solidly made. I bought it to replace an almost identical one that after years of use had broken. The fitting seemed straightforward however one of the ring handles had been put together incorrectly and was fixed solid so wouldn't turn when it was screwed in place. Fortunately I had the old handle and was able to substitute the part. A friend has since managed to prise the other handle free so that I can use it in future if needed. Apparently it had been pressed too hard onto the internal spline? which was the reason it wouldn't turn. Overall not a bad product but the defect made the fitting more of a faff than it should have been

This product turned out to be identical to a very cheap fitting that lasted less than 12 months. Would expect the same poor performance from this expensive fitting. Not happy.

I bought this because it was available overnight and I was way behind the Boss’s deadline. Fortunately, I have some black paint spray. The ‘better’ Gatemate product, galvanised and then powder coated according to Gatemate, was not Prime available, only 1 supplier and 5 day delivery.

Installation was relatively simple and the unit has held our gate shut in some fairly heavy winds, so overall I'm pretty pleased hence the 4 stars.I think value for money wise, the materials feel a little cheap and I'm not confident that this will last, but time will tell.

Decent but first time gate slammed shut in the wind a bit broke off, luckily I had a spare front my old gate. Don't let slam, I also had to file the snatch so it closed without without force

Ok. So I’m in the trade and have tried numerous cheaper alternatives, mostly with issues as the cheap option stick and don’t fit well. My advice, spend the extra £10 and fit something that works first time, every time. Only ever buy this brand now. Buy cheap, buy twice.
