Great book!
This book has really helped my husband understand more of his disease and how to minimize the symptoms and slow the progression down.

A Must Have Book if you have AS
The most thorough thing I've read. The tips are wonderful and it walks you through dealing with the MYRIAD issues that can come up w/AS. The only thing I didn't like was the mention of a man the doc knew who died of AS complications and the suggestion that women are harder to treat -- this is not useful information.

Great Book!!
Received this book yesterday and didn't put it down till I was finished. Very informative. Easily understood. Finding out recently that I had AS really had me scared. I do have considerable pain sometimes in back and left leg. I have been doing yoga for years, but was afraid some of the poses I had been doing might be making things worse. I had been doing all the ones pictured in the book except for a couple. I think I understand now the ones I probably shouldn't be doing. I had spoken with the physical therapists at the gym I go to, asking about exercise and all they told me was if it hurts don't do it. I couldn't help but think there was more to it than that. Also I am adding some of the products he recommends in the book. I have been switching between aleve, which only works for about 6 hrs, and ibuprophen which helps me the most. Hoping I can cut back on any OTC meds in the future with use of some of the Dr.s recommendations. The exercises really do help a lot. After reading the book I'm hoping I can manage my AS as well as Dr. Johnson. I highly recommend this book.

THE book for this very awful, terrible, no good, very bad disease....
Something I learned as soon as I made a determination to find out more about ankylosing spondiltis (because I have it) is there are precious few books on the subject. Type the words into Amazon and you’ll find only one book with more than five reviews. (This is only slightly better than elephantiasis…) In other words, not only are there precious few texts on the subject, nobody’s reading them. That one books is Beating Ankylosing Spondilitis Naturally by Dr. Scott A. Johnson, a best-selling author and board certified Alternative Medical Practitioner (AMP). I’ve now read the book and I will definitely assert if you’re suffering from any kind of inflammatory or auto-immune problems, you need to read this book. What makes the book so good? First, it’s authoritative: the man isn’t simply blabbering about other people’s problems–he actually has AS himself and tells you his story. So while he’s a medical doctor–with all the facts to back up what he’s saying–he’s also writing from experience. So the solutions he offers not only make medical sense from a scientific perspective, he’s personally tested them. The book is also comprehensive. Just running down the table of contents (here with a bit of rephrasing) you can see you’re getting the whole story:-A medical definition of what AS actually is-A review of standard treatment options-Effects of food on AS symptoms-Effects of physical activity on AS sufferers–the good, the bad and the ugly-Natural remedies for the disease-Suggested lifestyle considerationsIt’s a slim book–just over a hundred pages, not including endnotes–but it’s dense with helpful information. In fact, the book was really the final incentive I needed to make a complete and total change in my diet and perspective. I’m going to be 50 years old in a few weeks and in the past couple months I’ve had at least two doctors tell me I could face serious debility in the next 10-15 years if something doesn’t change. So….Dr. Johnson says his symptoms have been in remission for a decade. VE Irons “cured” his AS by fasting and lived to 98 (he died of complications resulting from a car accident, poor fellow). In other words-It can be done.

Best book
I rarely leave reviews but this is such an informative book for those of us with AS. These days I take the information and opinion of someone who deals with this disease day to day over the doctors who don’t know what it actually feels like and don't bother to find root causes. Diet has been a huge help for me and I love all the other supplements and advice he has to offer. Its like all the info on AS wrapped up in one small book. It also gives me hope that there are other natural ways to treat this!

Spot on!
I’ve had A.S. For 30 years. This book explains it better than most and acknowledges it is different for women. Good suggestions.

Very incisive.
Great information with exercises and supplements. Would like more information about essential oils, where to find them and where to find top notch supplement businesses.
