Enjoyable first person narrative
It has been a vey long time since I enjoyed a first person narrative as much as this one. In some ways the narrative style is reminiscent of Len Deighton although with a different focus of course. the setting is well depicted and the characters are very well drawn. the story is extremely well laid out. recommended!

Okay
It took me awhile to get into this book but it's good if you want a light read with a wise-cracking British detective. I'm still wondering what a Frogeye car looks like!

Behind closed doors
Behind Closed Doors could not keep my interest.. Too much talk about the car and descriptions about their surroundings..I like more involvement with the characters..

A very well written Detective Story
Michael Donovan holds your interest from page one and continues throughout. Fast moving with a bit of a quirky side. Eddie Flynn's car becomes a fun part of the story. This is a well written detective story that keeps you guessing and involved. I'm ready to read book 2 and certainly hope there are more on the horizon.

Good Start for Eddie Flynn
Late writing a review so all I can say is that this is a good beginning and, hopefully, a good series over time. Certainly worth your while to give it a shot.

Engrossing Book
I got this book free from BookBub and I was leery of getting it as it seems as though the free books aren't usually to my liking. This book was a surprise! I like the characters & the story line and I plan to look for more by this author.

Solid start to a new series
Eddie Flynn takes on the case of a missing teenager for her school friend and winds up involved in a much more complex situation than he expected. I liked the characters and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Nullity
Appears to be an old-style tough guy detective story. I got through about five pages and gave up.

Desperate
A book filled with such appallingly old fashioned female stereotypes that it just drips misogyny. Young girls described as sultry, described as being inappropriately dressed, talked about as sex objects, older women can't earn their own money, they have their older boyfriend take them shopping, because that's the only interest women have. All the female characters are defined by how attractive they are, but none of the men are objectified. A sad, outdated, poorly constructed book. Don't waste your money.

Great book
I loved this book. well paced, quirky characters, plot twists but best of all, lead character, Eddie Flynn, is a wise cracking genuis. Great read, this reminds me of Robert Crais's character Elvis Cole or J A Kerley's Carson Ryder, only without the California or Alabama backdrop. If you liked those other authors books. you'll love Eddie Flynn

Almost perfect
This is a story of observations - and everything observed is described in a kind of spare and witty detail, that brings the characters, locations and story to life. The whole business of investigation is depicted - not just the action but the boring bits too, like stake-outs. Also the PI is normally some no-hoper who can't get or keep a woman and frequently gets beat up in the course of events. Eddie Flynn manages to stay one step ahead most of the time and manages to get in a few moves of his own. I also liked the wry humour in the way he expresses himself. This would have been a 5-star review were it not for the poor proof-reading of the kindle version. Throughout the book "though" is used instead of "thought". And a couple of americanisms sneek in, for example "His office was only a dozen blocks away." I had to double-check that the story was set in London. Also one character is described as being "28 years old", a couple of chapters later he's "26 years old". A minor issue unless you've made a point about the characters' age being relevant to the story.Having said all that, I really enjoyed reading about Eddie Flynn and hope there's more to follow, as I would certainly give it a try. The plot twists and turns certainly kept me guessing to the end.

Stay with it.
I nearly gave up on it after The first couple of chapters The initial contact with 'the client' seemed hardly credible. The first person narrative seemed like a poor imitation of a Mickey Spillane novel. But, there was enough there to hold my interest and I stuck with it. Ultimately I was glad I did.I deducted a star for the overuse of Americanisms and the lack of information about Flynn's and Shughnessey's antecedent's, although I expect this will eventually be addressed.Oh, one more thing, there does not need to be a wisecrack in every utterance.

First class!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish - an excellent read. The more chapters I read, the more intrigued I became and in one breath couldn't wait to get to the finish but in the next breath didn't want to reach the end. Illogical I know but I found this story to be extremely addictive.I found the author had, for me, exactly the right mix - details which were easily understandable, humour and I found one such instance immensely funny and laughed out loud and very little sex (thank goodness) and what there was was very tasteful and fit in well with the story. The only downside for me was the fact that even though I checked twice, it still only says Behind Closed Doors not Behind Closed Doors (Eagle Eye/PI Flynn Book 1)I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more books by Mr. Donovan and just hope that I don't have to wait too long.
